Only because it's actually spelled pescetarian
not always, no. both spellings are accepted
There's a reason for that, in so much that most peceterians get fed up of having to explain what it means over and over and over again, so in the end they give up and call themselves veggie.
Saying your Vegetarian means people won't serve you meat. If you eat fish but tell people you're veggie then you may miss out on fish from them unless you clarify, but you won't get given any meat.
Surely that's better than people mistakenly giving you meat because you felt you shouldn't use the term Vegetarian?

Yes, they are omnivores, they themselves don't deny that, and there's a perfectly good definition to slip their diet into.
But given that it's not a well known definition, and one that requires constant explination, they soon get fed up and end up calling themselves veggies who eat fish, can't say I blame them.
I lol'd.
Anyways, the problem I have when people discover I'm vegetarian is that I get the "but you do eat fish, right? How about a nice bit of chicken? Or some ham if it's really thin?" inquisition.
I'm vegetarian. I eats vegetables. yum.
I personally don't understand the reasoning behind claiming to be vegetarian when you're not, but more annoying are the people who claim to be vegetarian AND YET WILL STILL EAT CHICKEN. Damn them.
