    Web hosting : the search

Hi there guys, dunno if this is in the right forum:

I'm looking for some new web hosting as mine's about to expire soon (uh-hosting).

    Does anyone recommend anywhere good?
    http://www.uh-hosting.co.uk/services...eller_hosting/

At the moment I'm on reseller entry, but I'm only using it to host 2 sites atm.

I asked a similar question about a year ago and decided to go for Brinkster from the replies. They've been very good, offer a lot of drop-in code for forums, galleries, etc and are pretty cheap due to the whole £1 = $2 thing.

If you don't need a database, 1and1 are by far superior to anyone else I've tried, regardless of the "horror stories".

They get a little pricey if you need mysql.

    Avoid

    OxyUk

    I'm about to try these

zomg 1&1 and there 20 connection limit on mySQL, then they have the balls to tell you your forum with no more than 10 people online required a dedicated root server running mySQL.. = £££££££££

fair do the rest of the service is ok, its just that SQL running on a 486-dx33 without optional co-processor

were moving the clan site to streamline in a few months, see what there SQL is like price wise there fantastic.

I've got a reseller Dream Hosting account and they've been excellent.

Recently had been using A Small Orange who were if anything better support wise.

Got a little 3iX for abusing things without worrying about bandwidth too (though I'm sure they'd complain if I were to upload DVDs of the school panto for all!), though their servers aren't very fast.

1and1 are definitey reccomended Very good network and good support..and you can get Windows Hosting with them which is always a plus as it lets you use .NET rather than being stuck with just php/perl.

They are a little pricey though..but if you are still looking then consider contacting sales@uk3x.com for a quote - its a new company but the network is all based within 1and1s data centre..and are cheaper than 1and1 for the same services

Possibly may even be able to sort out some sort of hexus.net discounts for ya'll too

What are 1&1's response times for support tickets these days? I was with them when I first started needing hosting (2001-2002 I think) and the service was fine, but the support was absolutely awful.

I logged a ticket (as I didn't want to pay to call the support line) about a problem with my sites and they took 3 days to reply. I can only assume they've gotten a lot better, but I tend to stick with smaller companies who offer a response time in minutes rather than days.
