say if someone has a cigar on a mates stag do along with everyone else. would that make him a ''smoker''

Too expensive, and it stinks, kills ya.
Can't really understand why people start smoking, i guess they start at school then get addicted?
LUCK!!!
Smoked from 16 through 25, going from social (2-3 nights a week) to full on 20 a day, then rollups during my student days.
Quit five years, 1 month and 26 days ago (on the day my son was born)
Best thing I ever did. Went for a full body checkup a few years back, and the xrays and CT Scan showed I had several damaged nodes in my lungs. The doctor said something to me then I'll never forget, 'With smoking, it's not 'if' it catches up with you, it's 'when'' so now I go for regular checkups just in case....

I used to smoke when I was pissed from the age of about 17-18. As I had very few friends I rarely drank though and so consequently rarely smoked. That all went a bit wrong when I was about 22 when an old friend of mine from school moved back to London and started dragging me down the pub 3-4 nights a week. He was a chain smoker and I started smoking quite a bit. I didn't really start smoking when I was sober until my job started to go wrong; cigs helped with the stress of it. I was never really a heavy smoker, maybe 5-7 a day then a few more in the evening if I was having a drink. In 2004 I gave up completely for about 15 months, which was good- except it led to me drinking a lot more, as whenever I used to have a cig before I'd just have another drink instead. After the 15 months, I was in the pub and had a killer headache, so bad that I've had had to go home if it didn't improve, so I nicked a cig off my (now) best mate and sure enough it cured my headache. It was also soooo enjoyable.
Since then I've been smoking on and off. I probably only smoke once or twice a week usually but if I've got a pack of rolling baccy open I'll have a couple a day just because I might as well. I never smoke when I'm sober (unless properly stressed) but then I have at least a couple of drinks every day so that doesn't prove much.
To be honest, I thought I'd probably give up again when the smoking ban came in- but I'm so annoyed about it that I increasingly think I might carry on smoking a bit just to thumb my nose at the nanny state. It helps that I smoke little enough to enjoy almost every one. I know it's easy to say at my age, but I'm really not fussed about living forever either. If I get lung cancer in my 60s because I averaged 3-a-day, I'll be unlucky, but I genuinely think I won't be that bothered, because I would have enjoyed my life less without smoking. Same goes for the booze really- I drink 'too much' but if it eventually crocks me, well, meh....
lapsed non smoker - I can not smoke for weeks, then have a couple.
hoping the ban will give me motivation to stop again.

Zak, are you thinking of giving up?
It's the expense! I worked in a well known high street shop for 6 years....
anyway, I saw the price of fags go up year on year. When I left in 2004 (to get a proper job) 20 fags were around a fiver. Admittedly, the shop was dearer than Tesco and Asda but still, folk in buying a fiver's worth of fags every day, must add up!
That said, I do spend too much on drink and going out in general. and takeaways.... and PC bits... and online poker....... and rolls and cakes from the bakers.... and lottery tickets....

gave up nearly 10 years ago cos i got sick of it and was not enjoying it - only real way to go cold turkey on it
going to the pub was fun, was necking pints rather fast for a loong time due to the absence of a bifter...
well worth giving up, you feel and smell a whole let better
Not smoked for three years now though i still consider myself a smoker - just in denial !! Infact, its become kind of cool again now (like being back at school !) as people have to go outside to have a fag like the cool kids he he !!
I used to smoke properly (10-20 a day) but quit 5 years ago. In all honesty I think I actually miss it (not all of it though ). It probably sounds a bit sad but I liked looking forward to a cigarette in a "Once I've finished here, I'll go have a cig and a cuppa" kind of way. Also found myself getting to know people, just because we both smoked.
I smoke a nargile (shisha) every now and then and when out drinking I'll have a rolly if anyone is kind enough to roll one for me! (and because of this I ticked yes for the poll)
Yep i smoke and drink
from 10-30 a day (depending on wether it was a drinking day) to 1 or 2 now... will do me for the moment
