Well thats obviously the view of someone who hasn't found out whats available if you dont go to university

Life most deff is not over if you dont make the grades, in this life and this country you have so many chances to do everything again if you muck up anyway..

And yes its the parents fault alot of the time drilling into their kids that uni is a must, so they go to a crap uni and do a pointless degree just to keep thier parents happy, sad but true.

I know full well what i could do if i didn't go to university, however university appeals to me a lot more. Besides the fact it allows me to specialise in something i enjoy - ie Physics - there's the whole aspect of university life, socialising, etc. and it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity (well, when you're 18 it is - 17 now btw). The jobs which i would like to do in later life, for the most part, require a degree in some scientific discipline and as i'm not intending to go to a crap uni to do a pointless degree then i don't think the above applies to me to be honest. (and with regards to pay - while it isn't my primary goal as i'd get bored too easily to do a dull high paying job - MPhys graduates can easily earn 25k+ straight out of uni).

And yes, life is not over, but i've made my choice and it definitely wasn't down to my parents.

For every winner, there's a hundred loosers. It's not whether you won or lost, it's how you're going to get your own back!

Thats one way of putting it.

I almost did an open degree but thought id give this a shot.. so as you say we shall see..

But basically what my point is, its seen as the absolute be all and end all... you can get any qualification at any point in your life.. although this may not be preferable if your going to go into law, or private banking because your uni is important and an open uni isnt the same.. You can get anything you want otherwise..

    More realistically, you can't.

Simple reason, if you blow it the first time, recovering financially can take a long long time. I attempted uni twice, both times I came out with large debts and no qualification because I simply couldn't work enough hours to cover costs of living.

Must be some kind of financial genius!

The alternative theory that I'm just bad with money must be dismissed on the grounds that I am me and thus infalliable

    Ahem
