    Re: Students! Fancy Office 2007?

I'm not entirely sure of the business rationale behind making this so cheap. It's an incredibly good deal at £40 but when I graduated I really wouldn't want to pay £500+ for a product that I could previously buy for £40.

Cool. I will do that when I buy Office.

Presumably its to try and reduce piracy and also to get people "buying" software and getting into the idea of paying for it. Or perhaps they just want to help students on their courses by providing them with software to help them. I admit its a weird offer in that students save a ruddy bundle but its hard to see what MS get out of it. Perhaps trying to improve their reputation or trying to generate some customer loyalty? They offer Office 2007 Ultimate to us for £40 and we're meant to think, "Gosh what lovely splendidly nice chaps those folk at Microsoft are! Its the Bill Gates ethos you know! I think I'll spend £500 on the next Ultimate version of Office because I want to be loyal to a company that gave me the chance to buy some software for £40 and not the RRP of £500".

Probably because most people are too computer illiterate to switch to any other software once they're hooked on MS Office...it's a loss leader. You get people on board now, and they can never change to anything else out there.

I can just imagine MS execs driving around in ice cream vans looking for nursery kids to give MS Word to....

If you order the media kit, you even get a bag of smack, good sh!t too. 85% pure herroin!

Or they simply belive much of the analysis that says over 95% of all MS reviune is due to office suite. Which 2007 is simply so much better than anything else on the market, most of the other stuff (like open office) can't even begin to compete with office 97. Let alone components like excel 97 (i'm not picking this example to show they've not innovated at all over the last 10 years, infact because pre 07 it was the last major change to office).

Right I've bought this and I'm downloading it now but I don't have an email yet. How long did people here have to wait for their email with product key?

My email came within about 10 minutes, seems to have been referred by the university though.

    Re: Students! Fancy Office 2007?

So MS or whoever contact the Uni and ask them to verify me? When I'm verified as belonging to this Uni I get an email? So it'd be during the working hours I'd get this email then?

Edit - Got the email now.

I tried this at half one this morning and it didn't work until I remove the \ at the end of Office.

    So
    Code:
    X12-30307.exe /extract:"C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\Office"
    worked for me.

Does anyone know if the license is only for the years you're at uni or can you use it after graduating?

I believe its perpetual so as long as you don't use it for commercial enterprises, i.e. don't make money from using it you can use it fer as long as you like.

    Re: Students! Fancy Office 2007?

Damn, I ordered the CD without realising that they haven't actually got any yet, any idea when they will? My internet is down (using my uni's internet), so having the CD right now will be great, so anyone got any idea when the CD will come?
Including the CD the price bumps up to £48, which still isn't bad.
