Re: How long can a spider survive under a cup?

I absolutely detest spiders. can't stand them. This thread is great on new ways to remove them from my life I tend to get someone to get rid of them, or occasionally drown them if water is nearby. I think they are bigger this year. I've seen fewer but they are bigger

This is disgusting, it gives me the shivers. I get quite a lot of spiders like this in the Autumn, sneaking up on me in the bathroom or running under the coffee table and scaring me to death.

The one that was under the bowl actually had a bigger body than this beast and was quite tall for a spider. Nasty.

^Honestly mate, they're not going to hurt you. Just let them get on with their business (eating insects) as they have it tough enough without people dropping Yellow Pages and the like on them!

Re: How long can a spider survive under a cup?

I used to get other people to get rid of spiders for me but in the end I thought it was probably best to do it myself - I dont like them, but I dont have a proper phobia or anything either. If you start by just putting a hand over one on the floor/wall its easier - I found that you can barely feel their puny movements anyway. Then it doesnt feel as scary to pick it up properly and throw it out the window.

Biggest one Ive found was about the size of my palm - only about a week ago actually. What would that be about 8cm (no ruler handy)?

I hate spiders, but I don't have the heart to squash them. I normally leave them, or try and use a piece of paper to get them outside.

I've noticed a lot of daddy long legs spiders this year i.e. small body and all legs (IIRC they are called cellars spiders) they are the ones that can, for example, fill a shed with cobwebs and many times I've got a face full of cobwebs.

Re: How long can a spider survive under a cup?

I've only noticed a couple of normal sized big ones (Wolf Spiders I think they're called), but it's been in the bathroom or corrider, so I just leave them alone. Generally make a nasty mess when squashed anyway...

The one that is scaring me a bit is the one that's built a massive web outside my window! It takes up a good half of it, and the size between each "ring" is about 1-2cm. There's a big hole in the mortar between the bricks, but haven't been able to tempt it out (doesn't like crane-flies it would appear), so I'm left with my imagination on that one, which is probably worse!

This week, I bin killing mostly gnats; but that's a preemptive strike or I get bitten during the night. The whining they make as I try to sleep annoys me as well.

Why are there always spider webs on the wing mirrors of my car as well? They like to get right behind the mirror and live there.

Re: How long can a spider survive under a cup?

I almost dropped a load scrolling down this page you jackasses!!

A black and yellow spider landed on my hand before when I went to open my outside containery-thing door, and I screamed. Bear in mind I am a 20 year old guy!

Has anyone else noticed that if you stop and stare directly at a spider they stop moving? Probably staring back... seriously try it! Good for the sneak attack...

The only reason i woulden't scream and kill one that i see is if they realise that it is essential that they evolve into pink and fluffy freinds to survive.

Re: How long can a spider survive under a cup?

Funny i should come across this thread on spiders as my niece was here tonight and they have got a device that plugs into a power socket that transmits at a frquency that keeps house spiders away!! They have not see one since they installed them? One in the upstairs socket and one downstairs. Apparently it uses the ring mains.

    Worth a try i suppose.

I usually squash the little buggers!
