Every rear projection TV ive ever seen hasnt had the nice contrast and colour balance of a CRT, and only look useable if you sit 40 foot away from them. Also - theyre rediculously big, and do they need bulb changes too? NOT sure - but if they do ill bet their not cheap.

I'd never buy one to be honest.

Either get a cheap plasma, or a big CRT. Front Projectors are excellent for movies, but useless for watching day to day TV, you'd want to use a projector as rarely as possible to make the £250 bulb last a long time.

RPTVs are often CRT based they just have a couple of mirrors and a screen as well, modern RPTVs are often no than than a standard CRT 'tube' set, some of them look (as the tosh DeludedGuy has seen and the Sony i like) considerably sleeker in my opinion. They have vastly superior PQ to plasma and a good properly configured one can have very comparable PQ to a standard 'tube' set, my parents have a 36" PF Tosh and the Sony KP44DX2 RPTV inpressed both myself and my dad.

All the RPTV's I have seen and used have been poor compared to tube TV's. This includes a friends new one which just set him back £1400

Hmm, looks like im better off buying a 32" tube then. Becuase im sure the bulb will need changing, and that will set me back atleast £450.
