Oil fired central heating, who supplies your oil?

Living in the middle of nowhere means no gas. I therefore have a lovely big (2,500 litres) oil tank in the garden. It's getting low and it's around this time of year I start pricing up the cost of filling it again.

This time last year I bought 2,000 litres for around £600. My best quote so far for this year is a shade under £850.

So, if you have oil fired heating, I'd like to know who supplies your oil so I get some more quotes and hopefully go for the most reasonable of them all.

    Thanks in advance.

There is at least one price comparison site for this.

They were featured on Working Lunch, it was a while ago, might even have been autumn last year.

Sorry I can't be more help

EDIT: actually, i think this is it: Central Heating Oil Suppliers, Cheap Boiler & Heater Oil – Boiler Juice

Not a price comparison site, but a buyer group. Might be worth a look.

Thanks Funkstar, I've just punched in my details and got an instant quote of ~£890

Oil is selling at 42.39 pence per litre.

Thanks for the links. MoneySavingExpert joins my list of bookmarks too.

Waiting to hear back on some quotes now

Re: Oil fired central heating, who supplies your oil?

It doesn't seem likely that it'll get cheaper next year, does it - and how about the year after...

Might be time to consider alternative heat sources - a wood-chip fired stove can now be had that would be cheaper to run, would be almost as automatic as you are used to with your current heater and you might even qualify for a government grant to help with the cost of installing one. Certainly could be worth doing a few on-line searches to find out what's available - and you'd be adding to the long-term value of your property as well as helping the environment!

My sister got together with a couple of her neighbours and got a discount because the delivery was all on the same road. might be worth a punt?

Re: Oil fired central heating, who supplies your oil?

I am based in Bury and purchase my Heating Oil from a company call Crown Oil ; they deliver locally but also do deliver all over the country.

    Hope this helps

Re: Oil fired central heating, who supplies your oil?

    Thanks very much to everyone.

Ended up going direct to a company.

Boilerjuice worked out a lot more expensive than most and their promises of a bulk buy never came to fruition.
