Re: Forum Rules & Freedom of Expression

Talking badly to a mod would get you banned, where is the issue?, hexus is pretty much self policing and i'm guessing the only reason this post has been created is you must have suffered
This post was created because somebody in another thread has been suspended but the link to that instance has been removed from my op by a moderator.

I was not aware that this forum was in it for the money. It explains things somewhat. Perhaps it should not purport to be a forum but a Club?

No. Who said anything about immediate? Who said anything about without question?

Many of the people on this forum will know that I have on more than one occasion caused a few ripples with the "Authority". And quite a few have been on the wrong end of my wrath, including the big man himself.

As is the case with the Jean Charles de Menezes case, if someone in authority repeatedly asks you to stop what you are doing, and you carry on as you please, there will be consequences. Luckily for the person in question, it is a suspension, not a permanent ban.

and HEXUS is, always was, and always will be A COMMUNITY.

Pubs and Clubs also have rules and regulations which must be adhered to, or you'll be thrown out and barred.

Internet forums are *not* democratic institutions, you all agree to the terms and conditions of membership when you join.

We try to be as easy-going as possible, but once lines are crossed, then we *must* act or the forums would end up in anarchy.

Discussing a suspension is the more accurate description and I see no parallel with that of the tragedy of Mr Menezes.

I agree. So what rule was broken by the person in the other thread please and why am I not able to quote a moderator's comments from that thread without them being deleted by a moderator?

Which is probably why you've yet to be banned (because your discussing it in its own thread).

The other person was ignoring orders from a mod, repetedly to stop replying in that thread, he got a 3 day ban, i fail to see how he feels hard done by?

Re: Forum Rules & Freedom of Expression

Well, I had a post removed on that topic and to be quite honest I deserved it and I support Saracens decision as I did break one of the rules. The member in question could have simply PM'd Saracen with his feelings on it and avoided a ban or simply taken heed of his instruction to report the decision to another mod for a second opinion. He did neither and kept pushing the point so I think the suspension was a fair decision. It is not like he has been banned permanently (well not yet anyway, and knowing how easy going the mods generally are I can't see it happening), its just a couple of days to cool off.

As far as I know the forums cost more to run than they bring in. The main site is the primary part of HEXUS that is used for revenue generation, not the forums.

Perhaps it should not purport to be a forum but a Club?
    Its a forum.

Lockage imminent I feel.... I'd leave it tbh - it happens sometimes. It's no biggie at the end of the day....

You feel I will be banned for raising the issue of freedom of speech? I am not sure that he does feel hard done by; I started this thread to discuss the principle but cannot link to the thread to illustrate a predicament.

I assume this arose so that we could share in the discussion?

I'm actually very curious as to what the community feels about this thread. After all, Admins and Moderators are supposed to help run the forums in the way the community wishes. If we didn't, people wouldn't become regulars here and would simply move on to another forum that suited their tastes.

So, I ask you lot, Is this the kind of high quality thread that General Discussion wants?
The more answers the better - One word answers are fine if you don't want to get involved in the discussion, it would just be nice to gauge numbers.
