a question about attitudes to work

Bit of a posh title for what really is a simple question. Does anyone else get so fed up and for a want of a better word - bored at work that you just cant be botherd to do anything? Im nomally pretty hard working and self motivated, but this week has been a major drag and i just dont want to do any of the work i have on. Im struggling on but i feel like im walking through mud

    Permanently confused

Re: a question about attitudes to work

Some days, towards the end of the week, with the end of the day in sight, and the nuts to it, only do 2 more hours then slip out thought prominently in mind, it can be hard.

Thats why i always try to have lots of little projects on the go. Instead of some 'intresting' development of a parallelised data interpolation service (which is grid like, got to love WCF) i'm just going to do some work on this owner drawn winform control of mine ooh look at the pretty colours!

Re: a question about attitudes to work

Yeh i know how you feel, which is one of the reasons why i run my own company. Ive always had a problem with working for someone, some days i just dont feel like it im not in the mood for it or just plain not happy, but as i run my own company with my dad its not so bad i can decide when i wanna wake up and start work and when i wanna finish work and start chilling out, i can also make decisions for myself decide which job im going to be doing etc etc. The biggest problem for me is waking up early like 7am etc i used to be able to do it no problem but then i started spending late nights well into the morning playing computer games and then go to sleep at like 6am and wake up at 2-3 in the afternoon, i can admitting say that during that time something got damaged because i cannot wake up early anymore without being extremly pissed or just general really tired by 12. So most days mon, tues & wed i work really hard and get loads done then thur and fri just general work etc. Some people say mondays is the worst day but i tend to find it the best day of the week except friday of course but monday seems to go really fast for me its like i start work do loads of work and then its like 5-6 already....

Not looking at the time is good solution to speeding up time.

Have you been reading BOFH today? Pretty much sums up that Friday feeling.

Personally I hate those days that are very busy but you don't actually get anything useful done.

work to live, as opposed to live to work

Live by that and you'll be okay I imagine.

guys....sometimes it's an issue of DIET.

    Try eating something different.....

Attention, and productivity at work is so effected by food that some companies PAY for a fresh fruit delivery every day!

    More power to them

Re: a question about attitudes to work

Everyone has CBA days and weeks. I often have a decent amount of practical work to do so depending on how bored I am I'll do some of that. I can quite happily spend a day or afternoon, mounting, grinding and polishing samples then take some piccies all whilst listening to mp3s.

I quite like to do my practical stuff on a Friday. Nothing like buggering about in the labs whilst waiting for the weekend.

Well I think the OP could be suffering from M.E. The full medical term for which is MELazygit .

Seriously, your job is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time but everyone has off days. Go with the flow and your vigour will return. If you dwell on it, it just makes things worse.

Re: a question about attitudes to work

I find that I have good days and bad days, mostly linked to how I've been performing. The better I think I'm doing in a day, the happier I feel.

Re: a question about attitudes to work

    All the damn time

These days we cna't work for 30 minutes at a stretch without the new boss woman pooping in to ask "what are you doing now?" or "how are you getting along"..

... usually followed by "oh, but I don't think you should be doing that... this <insert painfully stupid task that is not on our rota'd section> is much more important"

I was almost reduced to tears yesterday. Combination of patronising, deadline stress, and the expectation that I will be an internal mail courier so that the bosses can meet their ridiclously high serviuce level agreement which was of course set by the bosses themselves who have no concept of what it's like to be on the fornt line...

Ok so I'm paid £18,702 to be a data entry clerk but FFS at least LET me use my brain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ahem yes. Sorry.

Re: a question about attitudes to work

I've always hated working for other people. Some jobs i've had have been better than others but in the end I've not really enjoyed them all that much.

Now I work for myself doing network marketing and I've never been happier.

Re: a question about attitudes to work

I know the feeling, I feel the same way at the moment because I have been messed about for about 13 months by the company I work for and without sounding to much of a big head I know the company needs me because the is only me and the new manager who can do everything that needs to be done but I'm still looking for a new job and cann't wait to tell my area manager to go **** herself.
