Christmas is fine if there are young kids about and you can see how much they enjoy themselves. But for me, I can't wait to get past the hype, the crass commercialisation and the typically dire TV scheduling (by which I mean an order of magnitude or two worse than the drivel we get the rest of the year).
I wouldn't mind if it was still essentially a religious festival (and ignoring inconsistencies in dates, and the Christianisation of a Pagan festival, etc) but it isn't religious for most people. The overtones of commercialisation, the mania on present-giving etc. ruin any real charm it might have had for me. And when you realise than the Christmas period (run up, and sales) represents half of the entire years trade and profit for many retailers including very big ones, you realise why they concentrate so hard on capitalising on it.
I'm definitely in the "bah humbug" camp.
