Nope, don't own it - would be a bit odd for a 20 year old student to own a house. Well, unless Daddy is exceptionally minted. First step into independence & I'm reasonably proud.

Some new builds I must admit are quite poorly built, seem to have lucked out here - nothing has seemed to break yet.

Didn't mean to be rude mate, I just hear about a lot of new builds that are truly crappily built. (I.E. party walls made of plasterboard). If you've got a proper wall between you and the neighbours, then you should be on for far fewer noise complaints, which for a student = . I once had the neighbours complaning to the council after I played Toejam And Earl for 8 hours over my hi-fi- they didn't even bang on the wall or anything. Needless to say I never signed for one of their Littlewoods parcels after that.

Were you trying to get to planet Funkotron with Toejam and Earl at the same time?

You have no idea how much I loved that game

Yes , looks a nice house and you have every right to be proud. Don't worry what others think it's what you think that counts.

To tell the truth, I was actually playing Panic On Funkotron with my Megadrive Mk1 hooked up to my AV amp with a 3.5mm - 2xRCA lead. I now have the original Toejam and Earl, but having played the first couple of levels it doesn't seem to quite have the funk of the sequel.

Dave, it looks lovely... and good luck with your adventures in freedom!!

Whatever, however, your first house after living with parents etc is always a good feeling.

moving into my tiny little flat in macclesfield (old silk mill conversions) was the best feeling ever.

Ignore this lot... And those people saying that you're throwing money down the drain renting are obviously so out of touch with how us younger generation can afford houses (or not).

    Good work I say!

    Re: My new house...

Yes, houses vary in build quality, and some new places, like some old places, may be shoddy.

However your typical student digs tend to be a Victorian terraced house, often in a run-down, filthy and dead area. Here in Birmingham, most students live in the terraced part of Selly Oak, an area filled entirely with said often-drunk students and people who can't afford to live anywhere else.

So location to me is one of the most important factors of a house. You can deal with thin walls more easily than minority hate crimes, tbh Also, in such a new development, the other residents are likely to be quiet. Ok, so you have to play fair too, but it means no loud parties when you need to sleep - every week.

As for renting, it's actually cheaper than buying, especially in the south

looks ace, and whoever said new houses arent built very well, it depends on the gang who bult it. my dad is 53, his brother 54, and there mate 40, they are paid more than any of the other gangs on site because they do the best job, and they do it the fastest.

Thankfully, I've not had any noise complaints from the girls next door.

Which is suprising really seeing as I tend to listen to the autobots, aquasky, Noisia, Breakfastaz, Ctrl-Z & screwface with at least the sound loud enough to make my coffee ripple with the bass.

yes, but luckily the camera wasn't looking the other way... the hallway was actually in quite a nice state.

it's actually the "I'm too damn busy earning the money to pay for this place to tidy it" look, or "Sod that, I'm off to my mates" look

with current housing prices going mental renting is the only viable option open to so many people now so nonconstructive comments like that really don't help. if you may own a house already, all power to you but for someone on their own - away from their parents for the first time, and paying for everything on their own - its a big step and I fully encourage Dave for that, its a step in the right direction to getting a house of his own...

...provided prices come down a little!
