    Re: Are we Hypocrite's?

If Fuddam has evidence and can prove that faith healers do indeed heal then can I point him at the James Randi challenge - James Randi Educational Foundation - Challenge Info

It should be very easy to win the $1 Million. And it would be a certainty if he could have a word with the lord to make it so. You could also do the good christian thing and simply give the money away to the poor too. So how about it?

Why do I suspect that it won't happen.

1228: GOAL Man Utd 1-1 Everton
A great header from Tim Cahill as Everton equalise. Cahill climbs above Patrice Evra to convert Steven Pienaar's cross from the left.

    and Saracen...

I'll bite on that one. Just sticking to one type of life experience, I lost my sister-in-law to cancer, I lost both my mother and father to cancer (more or less simultaneously, they died less than three weeks apart), and I came uncomfortably close to losing my wife to cancer, but fortunately, medical technology, some excellent surgeons, modern drug treatments and perhaps a healthy dose of good fortune got us past that one .... so far. As a baptism of fire in life experiences, I hope that qualifies as a good start.
I cannot find the words to express my empathy.

Either way, great news. Like you, if I need help, I wouldn't mind trying every possible source - but what do the atheists say?

    non-mock accepted.
Covered this in other current thread. To simply 'listen to the voices in one's head' is indeed dangerous. That is why Christianity is about
    1) a long term relationship, not impulses
    2) verification over said voices, esp as one grows, in order to clarify the real from the rubbish (self)
    3) coherence with scripture, in its entirety (ie not picking bits of scripture to suit)
    4) community - elders, friends, family, academics, etc - i.e not operating on one's own

granted, when I heard the 'voice' last night, I didn't run it vigorously past 2-4, but it was in line with 1 and previous experience with 2-4, and so I chose to act on it. It's pretty difficult to explain snow to an inhabitant of the Sahara, but my point was that Christians do not act in a vacuum. We do not believe in Christ 'because it sounds nice' or 'because my parents told me to' or 'because it makes me feel better and therefore it must be right'. It's based on a living relationship.

There was a recent show in telly about inhabitants of Harrowgate being introduced to Islam. Something like 'Make me a muslim'. There was a 'Christian' woman in a relationship with a Muslim. She wanted to further their relationship, so she tried on the Muslim faith. THAT was a blind step, and completely contrary to genuine Christianity. One cannot be a Christian and 'try on' other faiths. It's basically saying "I will choose to disbelieve what is true in order to make things more comfortable." Complete b*ll*cks, to be frank. I mention this incident simply to illustrate that said woman is very unlikely to be a practising Christian, insofar as a practising Christian is someone in living relationship with Christ, NOT simply a church-goer or religious person. I assume (clearly) that is someone who was brought up in a Christian culture, and therefore classifies herself as Christian.

oh well, more later. It's late.

    Re: Are we Hypocrite's?

oh, just a quick post before hitting the hay: the bible is not full of contradictions or falacious translation. All you tired peeps who keep on trotting this out are either presumptious or lazy. Do some research. No, don't trot out Pi again - that example has been proven fallacious itself.
I remember a long thread earlier in the year where I gave quite a thorough explanation of how the bible, esp the NT, is THE most authoritative historical text in history, but most chose to end the thread there. Funny that.

I almost apologise for the very obvious follow on from your comments... But you want Christianity to be upheld and respected but have no truck for anything other than Christian beliefs? It's not only atheists you can't accept but Muslims too? I'm no expert on the matter but isn't acceptance and tolerance one of the big things in Christianity?

Ah, indeed you are no expert....

I imagine one problem that fuddam very quickly runs into when interacting with the muslim faith, is that muslims believe that god has spoken directly to only two people in all of history - moses, and mohammed.

fuddam believes that list should read moses, mohammed....and fuddam.

Oh to be a fly on the wall.....
