I'm going to sound particularly geeky here, but I work at a local Roman Museum and I once had to read a lot of stuff on the Roman numeral system...
Anyway, 2008 can be written in lots of ways. Most commonly MMVII but MMIIX and even MMIIIIIIII are acceptable. It depends at what time you were in and in which part of the empire you were in.
The same goes for the alphabet, lots of different ways of writing different letters peculiar to different regions. A sort of written dialect if you will.
So both MMVIII and MMIIX are right. Got to prefer the first though, as that's how Final Fantasy 8's title was spelt.

I knew what i was typing, even if my fingers typed and then corrected to something else.
I am slowly loosing the ability to type anything correctly at the moment. No idea what's wrong but i seem to be missing half the keys and hitting random ones instead.
