    Cheers mate,
    Just had a go.

    Drivers - Downloaded.
    N Lite - Downloaded.
Windows XP with added drivers created.
    Hard Drive - Not found.
My mental state - touch and go.
Sony's headquarters - Still there - for now.

I can't believe it doesn't work - on the plus side the drivers may still work for Vista :S

So if I clean install vista, with those drivers, it should work at a decent speed?

I won't promise anything, but I expect you will see a very noticable speed boost.

Just for the record, you did extract the drivers before slipstreaming them, yeah? You didn't just bung the .exe on the slipstreamed disk?

If you don't have a floppy drive you can play with, I think the only way of getting these files (you need the txtsetup.oem text file too, not included in the full Matrix Storage Manager download) is to use WinImage, which unfortunately isn't free.

If you didn't do it properly and need the files just post and I'll upload them for you.

I didn't extract the exes - no, I used the .INF files, are there more in the exes?

Silly me - I'd love the files!

majority of laptops are like that now - they are all promoting vista through agreement with microsoft

if you hate sony, you need to hate microsoft too

So long as the txtsetup.oem file was included it would have worked. Without it the drivers couldn't be loaded until the OS was installed (well, half-way through install if you're being picky), so obviously it still wouldn't recognise the drive during setup.

The file da_ging posted should work fine - he's done exactly what I was going to do. Slipstream those files through nlite and it should recognise the drive.

Re: Sony are trying to ruin my life.

    Thanks all!
I've got everything working on XP except wireless - I don't have a clue with the wireless, searched the chipsets, downloaded the drivers, done everything, no joy at all.

    Any advice?

download unknown devices from here and you should be able to find out what wireless it is you have and therefore get the drivers, chances are though it's an intel one probably the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG if you can't find anything with unknown devices

It's an Atheros 54G 802.11b/g WLAN, I can install the drivers but it won't work - the problem I think is a sony program called switcher.exe which allows the card to get power, which I don't have. Any one got it?

just covering the obvious but assuming it has one have you switched the wireless on with the slider switch that's normally on the front of the laptop?

if it's not the above then there are a few wireless utilities here that might be what you need
