Best medieval weapon...?

Longbow is neat - certainly curve the bones in your forearm though.

And to be honest, not very good at getting you out of a tight spot, rather better when used en mass.

you could always shoot a rope, causing a bucket to fall on your enemy..

cannons aren't Medieval... I didn't think Gunpowder had been invented back then (I may be proven wrong of course)

^Yeah they were around and in widespread use by the 14th century in Europe.

However, they followed different technical arcs - siege guns were more efficient than field guns due to powder and ammunition technology, at least at first. See Bert S. Hall, Weapons and Warfare in Renaissance Europe: Gunpowder, Technology, and Tactics. (Baltimore, 1997) for the best discussion of this!

I can definitely see the attraction of the Mace. If you are going to hit someone with something, you may as well make it have spikes.

I'm kind of with Pratchett on this; a pike, because the important thing about a pike, the really important thing, is that everything happens at the other end, i.e. a long way away...
