^Yeah they were around and in widespread use by the 14th century in Europe.
However, they followed different technical arcs - siege guns were more efficient than field guns due to powder and ammunition technology, at least at first. See Bert S. Hall, Weapons and Warfare in Renaissance Europe: Gunpowder, Technology, and Tactics. (Baltimore, 1997) for the best discussion of this!
