More seriously, why are they changing it in the first place?
Because they are old, it is common knowledge do what ever they want, don't give hoot what people think, and if you challenge them....they bore you to tears with stories that start as "when i was a young 'un...." or "During the war......"
Just buy like a padlocked 'gate' but obviously alot smaller. and put it over it, then padlock it...
Like that, and then hide the key

if we have any plumbers on here also wouldent mind explaining which wireless thermostat I need to buy....
AFAIR you should be able to lock that stat. No instruction booklet?
