Back at uni, my mates and I used to drink Tesco Kick (like redbull) and they came in 1 litre bottles. Mmm drinking Kick all night was great, until we read the nutrition bit...every bottle contained 1200% of your RDA of Vitamin B12 (or was it B6?). So at the minimum we were tanking up over 2000% of our RDA of vitamin B12 (or B6) a night.

Lets just say we quickly stopped that drinking habit!

Whilst you say that, RDA values are actually a load of bollocks, so much so that I almost ignore them now. They are designed by taking the curve for vitamin requirements, over the whole UK population, and taking the 50% mean value (if not 50 then close to it). Hence an Olympic athlete apparently has the same requirement for vitamins as a 6month old baby, just as a 70year old has the same requirement as a growing teenager.

In hospitals, vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) is sometimes used medically for a number of reasons, including rapid body healing and even cancer treatment apparently. When they give you Vitamin C, they don't give you 60mg (the RDA) they give you 10-20grams!! (or more sometimes) Ok, that amount of Vitamin C does induce a tiny amount of diarrhoea, but it flushes the system out and leaves you feeling much better (if I start to get ill I might take 3grams and by the next day I feel perfect again).

The point I'm making is that there is very unlikely to be a long term consequence if you go quite a bit over the RDA now and again.

I think he meant pick-me-ups, as in waking up now... Carbs are good for long-term energy but they don't make good pick-me-ups at 2am.

Maybe not the best of ideas depending on the vitamin. Sure your body can only process a certain amount of Vitamin C so you could throw tons at it and it'll be absorbed to a point and the rest passes on, at worst giving you a bad stomach, but some vitamins can be harmful if you have too much.

    Here's some examples: Vitamin Overdose

I find going for a quick walk (5-10 mins) wakes me up good and proper, nothing better when you're on your way home from work (where I was falling asleep )
