What you have to remember though, she'll never appeal to some people, because of her voice/appearance/music genre. That's just the way things are. Fans would probably have different views if she was, say, a classical artist rather than soul.
Nah, but I am a fan. I accept she's not everyone's cup of tea; noone is. I think she is special.

She doesn't break into schools with a handgun or beat up old ladies in the street. She sings. I hope she lives and keeps making music for a long and healthy life.

To be honest, I'd be in a much worse position if I had her money. My house would probably become a crack den. She's not harming anyone so let her be.

Kerry Catona on the other hand... I think we can all agree she needs a good face stampin'!

    Re: A step too far?

I think her music's pretty poor, but then that's my taste is all. I feel sorry for her because the scummy tabloid press has built her up and then immediately ganged up on her as soon as she showed any weakness by actually getting on the drugs (be it booze, cigs, coke, whatever) that she sang about.

I feel sorry for Britney Spears too. If I was her friend I'd kidnap her back to one of her massive houses and sit there smoking by the pool and chatting for a month or so until she'd sorted her **** out. How can anyone possibly be expected to get off drugs when they can't even walk out of their front door without a mental pap frenzy?

The whole of this celebrity obsession has become so destructive to everyone involved- the celebs in the mags are getting eaten alive, and the voracious consumers of this **** are getting their brains rotted. I've now banned my wife from buying New magazine- some might accuse me of being a chauvinist bully, but I think it's the kindest thing I can do- I'm trying to save her from the cult of idiocy.

    Re: A step too far?

It's hard to feel sorry for someone who is a drug addict. It's the same old trap that people keep falling into.

So she has reached that point where the drugs are no longer enjoyable and she realises more than anyone that she has made a big mistake. I think that must be a bad enough for someone to have to deal with. On top of that her husband being locked up. That must isolate her a bit.
I reckon that must be about enough to make her loose it a bit.

Then on top of that the media trying to ruin her career.
She's in a position to sort it out while most people end up homeless.

I don't have any sympathy for her but I think media are a bunch of parasites.

But wasn't it her father who went to the media to boycott her music? Backfired I think.
She is where she is for the music. The rest is her business.

tbh before you can criticise people you have to walk a mile in their shoes (then by the time they can answer back, you're a mile away. and you've got their shoes.)

Clever spot Smarter than you'd have us believe (lovely thoughts too, unless you're walking around London, you're more likely to end up where you started)

We all have are individual tastes, only we can decide who we like or dislike. As most people will say, the media only makes it worse - but these are the same people that go out and buy this 'negative media', just so we can complain. Who are the parasites really?

At the end of the day, everyone has their own problems to sort out, I'd bet every last penny that there's someone else in exactly the same situation as her (minus the media spotlight), and even they would criticise.

    Re: A step too far?

Just an observation & a bit of devil's advocate. I know shelley isn't that serious & this is a different tone of thread, and certainly it can be very provoking to have celebrities' problems (or let's face it, their successes - i'm thinking celebrity weddings here) pushed in our faces in the media.

I have sympathy with JimmyBoy and the lack of resources available to help his sister; it's one thing for families to rally round, & the person in question to try & help themselves, but lack of the appropriate outside help & support can be highly frustrating. I'm sure I would feel the same in his shoes, and be angry at famous people apparently wasting their chances. However I don't feel I can personally judge why they are doing so - I can't know the situation or motivations of any other person, especially if I haven't even met them.

By the way, Captain Oates (if you haven't googled him yet) was the member of Scott's Antarctic expedition who said that he was just going outside and may be some time.. (ie knowing he would not be back). What did they teach you at school? Oh yeah - lots of maths.
'Smarter than you'd have us believe' - um, i wouldn't delude yourself on that score..

    Re: A step too far?

Not that much maths, i kinda knew most of it before they taught it, i figured it out anyway (until A-level at least )

Deluded, am I? Yep, sounds about right

Nope, I dont extend it to include everyone... that was a response to an individual.

Lol I didn't criticise anyone, I was giving my opinion...If People like her want to drug themselves up to oblivion then fine, didn't say I wasn't against it ? your assuming that Katona makes me sick because of her drug habit, well no apart from taking drugs around her Kids and whilst Pregnant, She just comes across as a horrible Person.

    Re: A step too far?

And to think she came across as a nice enough person until I'm A Celebrity... the things that people in postions of power do really are stupid sometimes. I blame soft sentences and the nanny state, although if we became harsher, who's to say that the people imposing the harsher judgments wouldn't abuse that role?
