    the thieving council

Just had a demand in from the council for council tax, phoned to ask what it was about as we were payed upto date, this was from 1998, told him we have no way of checking that as our records dont go that far back, " its upto you to prove it " informed him that the inland revenue dont ask you to keep records that long. apparently they have the power to go back 19years, whats a body to do!
Worked away for three years, 1998-1991 tax free, back in the days of the dredded poll tax, checked before i left to see what was due in my abscence, " nothing" great, came back and got a demand for three years, they had moved the goal posts in my abscence, apparently because i was back in the country for 30days a year, even although regesterd as non resident, my property was classed as a holiday home, so with three years interest and penelties one could have stayed in a hotel cheeper. would like to hear your thoughts and experianced with your councils.

Maybe we should all open a vien as its blood there wanting

    Re: the thieving council

I'd check with citizens advice or a good accountant but I didn't think the council, like the inland revenue, could demand unpaid taxes after 7 years...?
