    [RANT] Dumb Photocopier Man

So we have a snazzy canon photocopier with a big paper feeder on the side.

This has NEVER worked with exception to the first few days of being installed.

Since then it always has fictious jams whenever you load paper into the feeder and and try and print from that paper source.

The photocopier people have been out and say there is nothing wrong.

Right now, it's out of toner so the guy today can't replicate it.

I told him the problem has been so long and so persistant, of course the jam log is going to be minimal. We stopped using the crappy feeder box since way before christmas!!!

So today, I told him about the issues with it and effectively he is calling me an impatient liar.

It's almost like he can't be bothered to fix the machine.

Oh and to top it all off, the photocopier is leaving a great big black mark across the first 50 odd pages you print out. Which again has been a persistant problem and again the photocopier repair man says it's fixed (more like they cleaned the suspect area and don't bother diagnosing the issues).

He wasn't in a great mood to start of with as the first thing he said when he got here was he has had to drive 125 miles to get here. I'm like, "So what? Not my problem your company doesn't have staff stationed closer to your home. Infact if you are an on-site repairman, why moan about having to travel??".

He's on the phone right now and he's probably moaning about the crap office staff here (specifically me who is trying to explain the issues and he is believing the report the photocopier is generating).

Send the photocopier back? Cancel the contract you have with the company you're leasing it from? Can you not do something like that?

Heh, I'm not in IT and not part of the process of doing things such as returning it and reviewing the contract.

Eventually mr photocopier man tried using the feeder and guess what? jammed. He hit print, it jammed. Everytime.

I was proven correct and he spent about 45 minutes fixing it.

He left explaning to the others about what was wrong etc. and didn't speak a word to me. He also looked rather sheepish.

I've heard of getting a monkey to do jobs but a sheep!? I think that maybe where you're going wrong
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

    Re: [RANT] Dumb Photocopier Man

To be honest, he was probably fed up of driving 125 miles just to get his arse kicked for something someone else had screwed up, after having to battle with his call desk who had given him a very vague fault description and even less information about where the call was (which was probably out of his "patch" and therefore unfamiliar to the poor guy) for the nth time that day.

Add to that, quite often when we get calls like that, you have to get the operator to actually show you how they were trying to do the job, so you can see if it's muppetry or not (in this case sounds like there was a fault, but usually there aint really). It's only then that the infernal jigsaw is complete and you can do your job. We don't need people standing over us, STEPPING over us - "Don't get up I can step over you..." /falls over onto copier tech - to get to printers etc. Like other human beings we occassionally make mistakes too, so don't be so hasty to judge em Sleepyhead - you may have had a bad service from the company, but how many times has this particular guy come out to you? Bet it was only today. And he fixed it.

    Re: [RANT] Dumb Photocopier Man

Of course he was fed up driving that distance, but he should have been a professional rather than be stubborn and instantly label us as muppets.

I wasn't telling him how to do his job, just this is the problem and he just didn't believe me until (eventually) he tried it himself.

I have almost no dealings with these sub-contractors, I'm not in IT so I have no idea if he is our local guy or not, if he's been here before or not.

If you read the whole thread, I did mention he eventually fixed it.
