    “I myself feel that it is very important that my ISP supplies internet to my house like the water company supplies water to my house. It supplies connectivity with no strings attached. My ISP doesn’t control which websites I go to, it doesn’t monitor which websites I go to.”

    There's proactivity in spreading the word as is evident from this thread.

    your doing a fine job santa. the more people that get behind this semi-preemptive action the better. this has to be stamped out quickly and cleanly before it spreads and other businesses spring up with the same strategy.

    Well said MadduckUK. Thank you

    I do hope more people here will see through the potential implications of the Phorm proposals. I am a little surprised that the Hexus community isn't being a bit more demonstrative given its usual appetite for intelligent debate. We're a bit behind on this one

    I don't really see that there's much to debate; you're either willing to tolerate Phorm or you're not. If you're not prepared to submit, there's little point arguing about it here. Instead take it up with your MP and ISP - they're not going to hear us complaining from here.

    As far as I'm concerned the matter has been brought to the attention of those in a position deem its legality. If it turns out to be legal then it's up to the public to vote with their wallet. Until then there's not much we can do. Just as well get on with something else in the meantime.
    My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

    Fair enough, it's a free country. I think you're underestimating the value of sharing ideas though. A forum can bring like-minded people together and the opinion of a group is more likely to be heard over that of an individual. However, if the Hexus community (with some notable exceptions) doesn't feel motivated by this issue, well, c'est la vie.

    What seems important to a white-bearded, jolly but roly poly fat guy who dresses like a large red smurf, isn't likely to be really important after all is it? Doh

    But the point of sharing ideas is that something is achieved as a result. In this case Phorm has been brought to the attention of those of whom can do something about it. There's little to discuss until a decision has been reached.

    Banging on about it in the meantime isn't benefiting anyone, it's only preventing you from doing something more worthwhile.

    Yep, that's the Dunkirk spirit old chap.

    I think this is worthwhile btw and, so far, those who profess least interest are the most prolific posters in this thread. Go figure

    Re: Bad Phorm

    Anti-Phorm action found on the web:

    1. Contact your MP, and ask him or her to raise the issue in parliament;

    2. Contact newspapers and other media outlets, and ask them to investigate the issue;

    3. Contact your ISP and tell them how you feel. Switch to another ISP that doesn't use Phorm if possible but remember Phorm may catch up with you at a later date unless it is stopped now;

    4. Inform everyone you know about the issue and how it could affect their privacy;

    5. Complain through ISPA, an association to which some of the major ISPs belong: ISPA - Complaints Procedure

    6. Sign the petition to the government:
    Petition to: Stop ISP's from breaching customers privacy via advertising technologies.

    7. Register your concerns with all branches of the media, particularly investigative TV programmes like Watchdog.

    8. Firefox users can use an add-on called Dephormation to permanently opt-out of Phorm, which also alerts you when you visit sites that are part of Phorm's ad network
    Dephormation Firefox 2 Add On - Stop Phorm / Block Webwise

    9. If you own or run a website, post the notice below onto your website. This makes it illegal for Phorm to intercept any data going from/to your website; they will be breaking the law when anyone with 'webwise' active visits the page.

    BT tested the technology illegally by conducting trials in 2006 and 2007 without advising its customers.

    This is a BIG issue.

    The very fact that they are using BT as their ISP suggests that this isn't likely.
    BT is a "dads" ISP. The majority won't care what's going on / give a dam.....

    if they don't care, or give a damn, whats the problem!

    i think people who speak welsh are seriously retarded (bringing up a langauge barrier for no worthwhile reason, will mostly hurt the minority group), dosen't mean i should force my view on the blissfully un-aware.
