Money - would it change you?

This has probably been asked a million times before, possibly many of those here on HEXUS, but I got the inspiration to ask too...

Would money change you? Not just a tenner or something obviously, but millions of pounds.

Personally I believe that whilst I'd treat myself (and possibly my family) to a couple of things, as a rule I would act the same as I do now, particularly on the subject of spending, since I'd like to think that I value the worth and would make little to no changes to my life.

If I were to win the millions via the lottery (the real ones of course, not the emails trying to con you), I'd choose the No Publicity option, and keep it a secret from most people (I'd probably tell my closest family and most trusted friends though, but that's it) - hence why I say I wouldn't act any differently.

I'm pretty certain money would change me, for starters I'd seriously consider going back to university and finishing a computer science degree.

Re: Money - would it change you?

Me too. I live in France and travel the universe for work. Ideally I would live in France and travel the universe for fun. I don't need, or want a bigger house, but I would like more cars, to suit my life's requirements, so I would probably buy one each of Toyota Landcruiser, Mercedes S600 and something small, fun and convertible, possibly an SLK, but more likely a Porsche or a perhaps a Ferrari.

In essence though the only big change would be stopping paid work, and replacing it with unpaid work (scuba diving, parascending, setting up spoof websites, campaigning for decency in various arenas, etc.).

If I won "the big one" (Euro 50m or over) I would probably bung half of it to charities of my choice, as otherwise I may feel tempted to use it for something.

It will reduce one set of worries and increase others.

It is all about balance - some you win and some you lose...

You mean it'd decrease the worry about the cost of living, but increase the worry of getting robbed?

yea it would be cool to get that much money, pay off student loan, buy a house, but as much as i wasnt to say that theres no way it would change me, i reckon it probably would change me... as if we in the west are materialistic and greedy enough i think it would make me even worse...

Re: Money - would it change you?

    Yeah it would.

I would pack in my job and do all the things I have always wanted to do.
And I wouldn't be taking any of the crap I get now.

Of course it would change me. Nice house, few nice luxuries ... thats it. I wouldn't go overboard or flaunt myself though.

Re: Money - would it change you?

It would definitely change me. A woman I worked with used to say all lottery winners who said it wouldn't change their life should be made to give it back.

I seem to recall watching an interview with one of the guys from Kiss who said that when you have no money you worry about it. Then, when you become a (multi)millionaire your money worry obviously fades but something else takes its place.

I think I'd like to live in a castle, or some kind of underground base. I'd also need a white Persian cat of course.

Re: Money - would it change you?

i think i'd take care of any debts my immediate family had, then sort them out with carefully chosen housing. I'd use the rest to start my own business.

And depending on how much i won, a portion would go to specific charities.

But i think once a house is paid for, it wouldnt be so bad to keep working, a mortgage is such a big portion of your paycheck that once its eliminated its a lot off your mind.

im used to a cheaper/poorer lifestyle and i think it has its advantages so i wouldnt be buying a manor and driving range rovers and bentleys soon after i won.

Yes, of course it would change me.

I would give up work and I would move somewhere sunny for a start and once I had gotten bored with sitting around I think I would start using my time and money to make political waves because I hate the way things are in this world.

Re: Money - would it change you?

I don't think it would change 'who i am' or my values and principles.... but it would definitley change my life.

the first thing i'd do would be to emmigrate, then buy the biggest plot of land money could buy and build my parents a house on it,complete with attached stables.

i'd probably buy me and the missus some sort of luxury apartment and a nice car each, after that...i'd have to set up a business or expand the current one as i would certainly get bored of doing nothing

I'm with eshrules on this one.

Although, I would like to think it wouldn't change who I am. Perhaps it would though, perhaps I would become an even more annoying bugger

What I've always wanted to do is buy the company I work for, although now that would take a good few million.
