Dont you just love the fullfilling feeling of achievment?

One of the best feelings in the world has to be being told how much of a good job you've done after achieving something

Currently sat at work and just been told by a person who i consider to be one of the smartest people ive ever met (MD of an IT consultancy company) that he thinks im doing an incredibly good job among other things and he would have absolutely no hesitation in employing me (its quite a big thing considering the intelligence of some of the guys he has working under him and being compared to them)

made me feel quite speechless for a moment, im an IT technician for a school at the moment, only worked here 2 years and its my first IT job so im still in the learning process (been incredibly lucky here though, learnt alot more than i would in 95% of other first jobs in IT)

what sort of thing makes you lot feel very this way? im chuffed to bits right now

He does indeed sound like it. It's astonishing how motivating and effective (sincere) praise can be. Far too many managers take good work for granted. Of course, the employee is being paid to give their best efforts, but nonetheless, the feeling of being appreciated is an extremely effective motivator.

Of course, it's also a good idea not to overdo it, or firstly it weakens the effectiveness, and secondly, it results in pay demands.

    learn to drive then

Soon as you pass, if the offer is still on the table, go for it

Re: Dont you just love the fullfilling feeling of achievment?

It looked like more of an inference or hint than an offer. It depends if he was just passing the time, or talking in managerese, because if the latter, it looks like a coded opening.

Of course, it might not be a bad idea to sound that out before going to the trouble and cost of learning to drive, if that's the only reason for it. Being able to drive is often a fundamentally useful skill, though. Trouble is, it's pretty expensive to learn, and it's a skill that does atrophy if you don't use it, so it kind a implies running a car and that, certainly, is expensive these days.
