8 miles is pretty decent for a casual one-off walk - I've been training for 6 months to do 32 miles and its still killing me.

Stood outside the Indian Embassy in London from 4.20 in the morning till 9.30 in the freezing cold - trying to get some visas sorted at short notice.

How long does it take to do 32miles? It sounds impressive!

About 8 hours walking fast. A couple of hours more if I want to enjoy the walk and not feel quite so dead afterwards. TBH everyone has their own pace that feels natural so it can vary quite a bit between people.

It's one of those things that almost anyone can do if they put the training in - about 45,000 walk the Nijmegen Vierdaagse each year at any rate, with roughly a 10% drop-out rate I think.

I thought Nijmegen was 100 miles? 25 miles a day, hence vierdaagse (4 days)

The other one I've heard of is the Deathmarch in (I think) Belgium... 100 km in 24 hours, or something like that

If you are male between 19 and 49 you have to do 50Km (32 miles) rather than 40Km (25 miles). There is a 30Km distance for very young/old as well, though I cant remember the exact ages. Trust me, I read the rules very carefully to make sure I wasnt doing an extra 10Km per day unnecessarily.

Ah ok then. As an Air Cadet, we were only ever told 25 miles a day

I spent all of it on my feet tonight at a night out in Reading due to no seats........
