Picked up another monitor...

Got it in portrait next to my iMac, great for working on my thesis and has transformed working with forums and news sites.

I was reading that the 2408FPW has some 'input lag' issues, but I do not seem to notice any ghosting as yet.

Does having monitors that aren't the same orientation not annoy you though?

I'd only consider a 2nd monitor if it were the same size/orientation as my current 20" one, I think having what you have would annoy me!

I was tempted by the 2408 in the bargain thread, but the talk of input lag put me off. That and the fact that I don't really need a new monitor - currently using a 22in Samsung (1680x1050).

I still find the need for more desktop room, but how do you find dual displays? I've always thought they're a little more inconvenient - though, I don't know is that's just with Windows. Maybe dual screens are more user friendly with OS X?

I toyed with the idea of getting a second 22in Samsung (they're quite cheap now), but I think I'm gonna end up saving up for a bigger screen with a higher res.

Really liking the idea of a portrait screen, though.

Well, in the past I have gone from dual to triple displays although I did find having triple monitors far too much; I'm talking about a good ten years ago with 3x 17" Syncmaster LCDs.

If you do have dual displays and they are large, one would be looking here and there a bit, but comparing with my current setup I personally do not have the same issue. The portrait screen on my left is working very nicely in the sense that I can have firefox in 1200x1900 and with tabbed browsing it's fantastic.

I can also shift random apps I want onto this side whilst all the main stuff still runs on my iMac. Yes, Macs do handle dual displays very well but I do recall the nVidia drivers doing a good job of it as well.

On the input lag issue, I can't seem to notice much on this end mate; the monitor is running brilliantly with everything I've managed to throw as it so far.

I thought it would but the whole point of the portrait mode is to give me more real estate vertically and to that end it's working great. MacOS also allows me to align the oversized screen accordingly, this way my mouse drops off from the iMac onto the Dell at the same level; the top and bottom sections are contained, i.e. the mouse will not move back onto the iMac unless it is at the same height of the iMac screen.

eBuyer has some great deals on LCDs and the price of these 24" screens are starting to look rather amazing. Samsung had a 27" display for the same cost of the Dell but I feared it would be too big next to the iMac, which is why I passed on it; I also read about the S-PV panel on the Dell and thought I'd get it instead.
