Sorry to ask but What is spam? am i doing it..
the amount of spam being posted was awful before the forum nuke, and it stopped me from bothering to re-register for a while. thought a quick name change to go ith the new forums would also be a good idea.
lo all, btw - i'm back
welcome back?
Thank you for voicing your concerns people.
SPAM is something that we have been keeping an eye on, and it has been under discussion in our mods room.
We will now action the decisions we have made.
SPAM will not be tolerated in these here forums. Spammy posts will be deleted, spammers may find their post counts do funny things, severe spammers will have their access revoked via the big red button.
Please people, do not give up on HEXUS.net so soon. We have gone througha torrid time lateley, and the last thing we want is mempers leaving because of spam.
If you see a spammy thread, please report the post. That way we can react, and also gain a better understanding of who is spamming. Stick with us! These here great forums WILL NOT be poluted by spam, not while theres blood pumping through my veins anyway!
Butuz over and out.
your posts aren't spam, they've normally got a point, unlike people who just say "nice " or "lol " to every other postOriginally posted by Emzay
Are my posts spam? Your making me feel all scared with this threat of 'action' I tells ya! I hardly post much but I admit my posts arn't too intresting
I admit to saying "lol " myself if a joke is posted but at times like that i don't think its bad as theres not much else to say except - whimsical jape old bean to be perfectly honest it made me laugh my britches off and now the maid will have to wash them
Its all about moderation. I like to acknowledge a joke, or something funny, and yes I've posed a 'lol' or a here and there.
Its not spam, because I like to think that the vast majority that I post has a little bit more content.
I think we have a fair idea about who the abusers are, its merely a question of keeping an eye on them. The last thing we need around here is constant paranoia that your post isn't long enough.
I think the 'earning an avatar' system was a big contributor to this problem, re-launched forum, lots of people with 0 post count, not allowed avatars untill 100 posts - it ain't brain surgery.
My pet hate has been the hi-jacked threads turned into 4-way msn messenger conversations, and 4+ pages of 'do you like my sig?' very annoying people, very annoying. Old members have retired because of things like these.
Just a little more thought before posting eh ?
Yep, great idea, I'll second that. I'd like to nominate Luke313 and Steve Threllwell for starters LOL Oh and lets not forget KnoxyOriginally posted by Trash Man
You mean like you post in this thread
A name and shame list would be great IMHO

P.S. I freely admit to spamming my way to 100 posts to get my Avatar back but I did try to make it interesting

luke313? The one who started this thread? I'm pretty sure he is anti-spam
Sometimes I am not sure what is considered spam.
If somebody finds a really good joke on the internet or a funny video and feel the need to share it. Is that considered spam? And the people who are ammused by this and want to acknowledge the thread starters find. What is acceptable to say?The thread starter may feel a little rejected if people are to afraid to ackowledge his joke/video/image because they may get accused of spam. No doubt though! "Lol - good picture!" is that spam? "Haha, good joke! Especially the ........ part" is that spam?
What is acceptable and what isnt?
Maybe its just lack of judgement from people posting. I can tolerate a few "lol's" and occasionaly, but, what I can't abide by is people who post lol 3 or 4 times a day. Maybe the forum guidelines should be updated with a more in depth approach, and that every new member must view the forum guidelines before they can post? A name and shame list would just be asking for trouble though. 'Tis a difficult situation for the mods to solve, and I *hope* that this thread has alerted them to how the members of the forums feel about the spam and that we want to help the mods stop it.
I'd have to agree with Mojo, posting "lol - good picture" is not Spam imo, especially when it's in the General Discussion and Banter Forum

I freely admit to posting in excess before the nuke, when i registered but not after and certainly not now. The fact that members such as knox, myself and also TRASH MAN (who had upteen thousand posts before the nuke iirc- and i do) have huge post counts because we spend a ridiculous amount of time on these forums. This does NOT mean that we are spammers. I have been making a big effort of late to post some helpful stuff, especially in hardware (despite my admitedly limited understanding).
I admit that i have posted some responses like lol and the one trash man linked to but havnt we all at some point?? Skii has a good point its all about moderation. Its acceptable to post lol occasionally in maybe a joke thread but not all the time in many forums and the edit funtion is overlooked by many seemingly deliberately quite often.
When i originally joined hexus in january it was very different to what it is now. Lets not let that cracker screw us around, lets get it back on track. Lets cut out the spam and also the bitc*ing- elmo considered leaving the forums altogether and we all know of at least several members who havnt returned after the reset.
I cant help but think that hiding post counts would help things along as well. What does everyone think?
Its also the thread hijacking and having conversations, remember what the D stands for in GD, DISCUSSION, not CONVERSATION. I agree with steve that this place is nothing like it used to be, people don't seem to be getting on with each other, and, instead of people being helpful they are being part of the problem.
Too true, although trash only had a few more posts than me mate. I do spend a ridiculous amount of time here, and post in quite a few of the forums i don't just stay here in G & D.Originally posted by steve threlfall

Anyone who seriously (i know this is a kinda on-going joke since before the nuke, but some people take it seriously) wants to call me a spammer wander over to question time, or the film forum.
