I dont know how these people can sleep at night
Seller should never, ever, ever leave the first feedback.
I thought well he payed straight away i never even thought about anything else,..Stupid me...
As a buyer, if I buy I pay promptly. If goods arrive and are as described, I leave positive feedback.
As a legit buyer, there's nothing a seller can expect of me beyond that I pay within the described period, and act honestly in terms of feedback, etc.
But for a seller to always wait for me to leave feedback is essentially blackmailing a buyer into leaving good feedback, because far too many sellers use their feedback to 'retaliate' against the buyer's feedback, whether it's justified or not. If I pay promptly, and within time, I expect positive feedback. If a seller tries to use his feedback to pressure me into leaving good feedback, he's very likely to get negative, because it destroys the point of feedback, which is an HONEST assessment of whether the other party acted properly or not.
Feedback can't protect against scammers, but to refuse to leave feedback until the buyer does is to tar all buyers as potential scammers until they prove otherwise. And, after all, legit buyers like me have to trust that the seller isn't a scammer, and we pay before we see the goods.
Someone has to leave feedback first, and provided the other party fulfils their obligations, feedback ought to be immediately forthcoming.
Unfortunately, eBay has far too many people that will take advantage, and that consists of both buyers and sellers. This is why I don't use it very often, because I simply don't trust it and nor do I trust eBay to resolve disputes fairly. The case this thread is about is, assuming it's accurate, a perfect example of why I don't trust eBay/PayPAL.
eBay was a great idea, but it's been taken over by people using it to run small, and not infrequently, dodgy businesses with dodgy business practices (*), and by scammers. It's got to the point where, as a buyer, I'm very reluctant to take the risk, because I can't be bothered with the hassle if it turns out not to be legit. And I know a couple of people that have started businesses on eBay that are now moving off eBay (or already have) because of the extent of problems, and because of eBay's attitude.
There are still occasions when I might buy from eBay, but (personally) I'm VERY selective about what, and from whom, I'll buy. Mostly, it's more trouble than it's worth, IMHO, which is why I think, personally, that we're seeing the beginning of the end of eBay. To many of us, both buyers and sellers, have had too many problems. And if it does die out, I for one won't much miss it. It's got too big and far too arrogant for it's own good.
(*) An example of "dodgy" practices - companies that claim product is located in the UK, yet after you pay, it turns out it's being shipped from the US or Far East, or wherever. Had they declared that it the first place, I certainly wouldn't have bought. The achieved an order from me only by lying.
Not read the whole thing, in a rush, but my view is: the seller essentailly has little or no effective recourse against the buyer. Paypal and ebay always seemt o side with the buyer. If there is a dispute (and I would state that I have not had any as a seller, only as a buyer) then as a buyer, I would expect the seller to come to me with it. ONce that is resolved, then I would leave feedback.
If I leave feedback, without having confirmation from teh buyer that everything is OK, it opens me up to the abuse that the thread starter received, or to unfair or overly harsh feedback even if the dispute it well resolved.
I view positive feedback first from teh seller as confirmation that the deal has been completed satisfactorily. Nearly all the buyers I have dealt with have left the feedback first, none have complained, and I don't complain when I leave it first as a buyer.
I agree that there ARE sellers who use "waiting" as a blackmail tool, but they're usually spottable by negatives. THen again, lots of people are generally little sh1ts anyway.
Thats so bad,Ive heared of those scams but never known anyone who has had it done.A cousin bought a car from ebay without seeing it just a picture how mad was he,Lucky it was ok.

Sellers cant leave negative feedback now. One of EBAYs new crappy rules. But for a seller to always wait for me to leave feedback is essentially blackmailing a buyer into leaving good feedback, because far too many sellers use their feedback to 'retaliate' against the buyer's feedback, whether it's justified or not
Also, if i sell, i never leave feedback for the buyer until they do. If they are happy they will, if they are not happy they wont.
I would also like to say that its not all bad
I recently bought a network switch, it wasn't 100% working (2 uplink ports did not function) but the 48 100Mbps ports worked fine.
I contacted the seller who said he was very sorry, he refunded the cost of the item + the postage and said I could also keep the item!

After reading this thread i have closed my Paypal account.
A rare find on eBay, thats the problem nowdays there are legit people but it's mostly filled with those mass sellers and those scammers. I had a same experience with a seller who's item was faulty and since he was going on holiday he decided to order me a brand new one of the same item, shipped next day delivery from guess where.. OcUK! So I paid him for something, and he went and paid for the item where it was most expensive at the time which was +30 more than I'd paid. Real nice person, he didn't even want the faulty one back either.
