Comparing the shave from an electric razor compared to a safety razor is like comparing a drive in Punto to a Rolls Royce!

    That depends on your skin/hair.

If I wet shave then it *looks* like a closer shave initially, and feels like it for about 30 mins. Then it starts going downhill - within a few hours you can already start to feel very sharp hairs and anyone in the immediate vicinity of my skin gets instant razer burn. And when the shadow comes (always far too quickly) it looks rubbish.

Electric shaving doesn't produce such a baby skin finish at the start, but then it doesn't really change as much - as it grows back it remains very soft. Towards the end of the day there isn't a dirty shadow, but instead an apparently far sexier stubble.

Have you even taken a slow relaxing shave with a single blade safety razor?
Doesn't sound like you have from my experience.

    Re: Shaving

My Brother always complains of razor burn/nicks and cuts.

One day he nips round mind, and asks if he can try my "super razor".

I nip upstairs, shove a new blade on for him. I turn round to find my shaving cream and brush. As I turn back, I couldn't believe what I was seeing:

He hadn't wet his face, nor put anything on it. He simply shaved his face at a speed I found it hard to comprehend, shockingly he cut himself to shreds, and his neck/face was as red as anything I've ever seen.

To this day he says my Razor is crap.
To this day I call him a moron.

Sorry I used the wrong term - I don't get razor burn - when wet shaving I always do it properly. I meant to say that my gf only has to lightly brush my face and she will get a very painful rash due to the sharpness of the stubble growing back. I get the same even drawing my hand across my mouth, and neither of us have sensitive skin, it's just the sharpness. The blunter cut from an electric shaver leaves the hairs softer-ended and doesn't create this problem.

    Re: Shaving

Wet shave all the way. Electric shavers cannot compete IMO (haven't tried one for a few years but doubt they have moved on that greatly).

Believe me shaving feels like the biggest chore when you have to do it daily, the less you can do it the better.

    Re: Shaving

It depends for me, I'd have a manual shave when I'm going on a night out. Whereas if I'm just getting up for Uni and feel the need to look less scruffy I'd poke around my drawers for my electric one.

    Re: Shaving

You forgot the choice of, "I let which ever one of the sexy ladies in my entourage that is most willing to make my chops as smooth as a baby's behind by whatever means, grrrrr" from your poll.

Actually I was looking to change my razor (Mach 3 and King of Saves gel) and had a look around the pharmacy, boots, tesco etc and **** me a lot of the blades are almost twice as expensive as mach 3 blades. "Platinum hardened"??? WTF? I'm a materials engineer or metallurgist by profession and this just screams BS just like all those products with Titanium in the name that don't contain titanium. So I did a quick google investigation (because Gillette has a websh*te which is crap) and the only thing I can see that would match with the name is carburising an austenitic stainless steel by a process Platinum as a catalyst which lowers the absorption threshold. Coating a blade with Platinum would be hugely expensive considering the volumes manufactured.

I saw the King of Shaves blade "Azor" and this seemed to look alright, but the blades weren't much cheaper than the more expensive ones. The KoS website was slick, but a bit BS for me, I can see through the hype. Maybe it's time to grow a beard.

Go old school! Get a cool Safety Razor - the blades are unbelivably cheap!

I wouldn't get an electric mate.

I've been told the facial hair at our age is too fine to be cut with the electric shavers.

    But yeah, manual ftw.
