MSG... anyone else sensitive?

I'm fairly certain that I am sensitive or allergic to monosodium glutamate (MSG), I've been trying to avoid it for a while now. I had a curry from a chinese takeaway (I went for the curry because right from being a child chinese food made me feel ill) a while back and I couldn't breath, ended up downing 4 pints of water and being sick. After that I felt out of it for about 2 or 3 hours.


I made the mistake of having a some kind of pasty for my lunch today, didn't think for a minute it would have it in but now a couple of hours on I'm feeling jittery , nauseous and I like I have a temperature.

Anyone else get effects like this?

I've noticed that the last couple of times I've had Chinese takeaways that I've had trouble sleeping afterwards because my heart was racing and I felt a bit skippy.

I ruled-out caffeine as a cause because I watch what I drink (I'm a terrible insomniac) so I've been wondering whether MSG affects me - though it could just be my sleep-avoiding brain playing tricks on me...

I stay away from chinese food these days, its always smothered in MSG......and seemingly more so then any other food.

Although I do not get (or so far have not noticed) any of the side-effects, I just get a bad feeling about it. It's also a good excuse to always order an Indian or Nepalese instead

my mum was told to avoid msg's, she gets migranes a lot for no real reason and was told by the doc that msg's could be the cause, cutting them out didnt cure the problem but it did help

everytime i get chinese i always ask for no msg! the flavour is not so intense but still taste good, try it!
