    Some of you may remember...

Some of you may remember this thread where I asked people to proof read it all. And so on.

Well I carried on writing it. I try to write a bit every single day, and I normally end up doing it in the small hours of the next day, or at about eleven in the evening. I write them on wordpad, as an rtf file, then stick them in folders. I also have a mastercopy that has every single day since 8th September - or at least, every single day that I wrote something. However, I never bother to word count.

I also found an old hard drive resulting in this thread and another set of blogs springing up. Mini-essays, descriptive writings. Whatever I feel like doing at the particular point in time once I've finished my blog and decided not to go to sleep for the night.

So anyway, I came downstairs to upload the lot of files onto t'internet (as I can't do it from the laptop on which I write my blog.. no internet ) and accidentally clicked on the mastercopy. It scared me.

Since the 8th September, I have written all of 91673 words. That's 142 sides of a piece of A4 paper. How can I have so much utter rubbish inside of my head?

Has anyone else started writing something that's gotten vastly out of control and grown at tremendous rates or is it just me? Am I - once again - just the abnormality?

Oh yes - and any ideas for essay titles for me to waste 30 minutes on writing, or really brief one-line ideas of a world/place to describe would be nice. Keep it vaguely clean, at least for the descriptions. I don't want to have to spend 30 minutes describing something that I don't particulary want on my computer

Re: Some of you may remember...

You obviously enjoy writing - have you tried doing anything more constructive than just stream-of-consciousness stlyle blogging?

Instead of random essays, plan a story. Spend a considerable amount of time thinking about plot ideas, characters and relationships, and with the amount you write everyday, you'll soon have the beginnings of a novel!

    aye
    do that...

write a booky wook (), you might as well write a fully fledged story about something...

even if you write it bit by bit on your blog...

Crime novel, always seem to go down well. Make sure the'res an inocent butler and people will think it's an amazing twist when it's not him
Failing that an essay on somthing that might crop up in future lessons so you can have it on hand right away. Somthing like Romeo and Juliet or An inspector calls. The're very boring.

Re: Some of you may remember...

Of course racism's bad. I've found, in this life, the more stupid the person the more likely they are to hate those different from themselves.

Be it they originate from Somalia or Southwark.

Be it they deeply tanned, lilly white or speak an Eastern European dialect.

However, I still think, deeply rooted in all of us is a rather misguided notion to dislike and distrust those different from our accepted 'norm'.

Which is rather sad. And also rather stupid.

    Now, about those essays....

Well, there's been the odd post on here that gone a bit beyond what I intended when I started. But I've not gone as far as 90,000+ words I must admit ..... yet.

Re: Some of you may remember...

Saracen.. I've managed a 30,0000 word post on these forums
I have too much time on my hands....

As for the story thingy - I'm doing it. Slowly. But even with me writing that, I still write an awful lot of other things.

Racism be a good topic for the essays... something to do tonight maybe?
Hating the French? Hmm... I never thought of that... maybe something else to do

Essays aside, Virtual suggested that I write a story. I do actually, somewhere, have the basic outlines of a story tucked away on my computer. It has things like descriptions of every location that I could think up, detailed character analysis, plotlines, storylines and a mishmash of ideas. The problem comes from having too many....

I lack the single track mind that writing something comprehensive would require.... I'll give it a go though.. No objects if I bother you all with a few openings and the like?

    Good

A bit beyond? So, you only meant to write 8 paragraphs, but accidentally ended up writing an encyclopedia-length opinion?

Re: Some of you may remember...

Mediaboy - the reason I suggested writing a story - or something that requires a similar level of commitment, is that it will make you a better writer. Writing involves putting words on a page; good writing involves a lot of planning and research before you even start writing. What you're doing at the moment is great and you're obviously very intelligent. However, when you look back in your hard drive in a few years, will you find any value in what you've written, especially as your vocabulary and the clarity of your writing develops? You'll learn a lot more by challenging yourself to write with more structure.

Something I learned from my A-levels is that essays hinge on planning. No-matter how vast your vocabulary or wordcount, without a clear, flowing structure to essays, what you'll write will seem bloated, pretentious and hard to understand. This is fine if it's just a cathartic private blog, but I don't think any essay about racism written in 30 mins without research or prior thought would be worth reading.

I'm being honest because you obviously have a lot of potential, and while what you write at the moment is good, if you're going to exhibit it publicly on Hexus and ask for critique, you need to up your game and make the move from angsty diaries to good peices of writing.
