To sum up my feelings on the matter...

I personally don't find Brand in the slightest bit amusing, but I guess that's my loss. I feel the same about Chubby Brown and Jim Davidson and they're still "comedians", so my sense of humour is evidently skewed.

Jonathan Ross hasn't done anything to entertain me in the last 10 years or so, but again I can live with this fact.

Sachs (from all the coverage I've read on the matter, granted most of it either by the BBC or in the Independent) doesn't actually seem to be that bothered about the messages. He didn't give permission for them to be aired, but the BBC did it anyway: this is the only point worthy of any significant amount of news coverage in my eyes. Otherwise... just let it die, please.

i have issue with the comments regarding the granddaughters job, i don't feel this has any relevance at all, the fact that her chosen career involves putting on the persona of someone with less than squeaky clean morals has no bearing on how she should be treated. even if she is that sort of person, its still irrelevant

whilst i can't say i'm particularly fussed with her and fully agree she's milking it for all its worth, neither am i particularly enamoured with sachs himself, the lovable old racist one-trick pony who hasn't done anyththing worthwhile other than being a buffoon in fawlty towers, but regardless of my opinions of them they are still entitled to the same level of dignity and decency as anyone else, which in my opinion means not ringing someone's grandfather to discuss their sexual proclivities. in fact, not even ringing him, leaving a voicemail so he doesn't get the chance to say anything in defence

IMHO saying that "she's a stripper / slag anyway so what's the fuss" is heading down the same road as saying a girl who goes out wearing a short skirt then gets raped was "asking for it anyway". standards are standards (and in this case, broadcasting regulations are also applicable) regardless of the person they are directed at or about

secondly, telephone "pranks". yeah, they're really, really funny. again a personal opinion, but anyone who participates in such drivel should be repeatedly battered in the face with a telephone receiver (scott mills and whatever clown is reponsible for fonejack spring to mind here)

Tbh, I find Madduck more sitcom material - his posts don't strike me as being thought about for half an hour to fugure out the best delivery, it just tumbles off the keyboard and is funny.

I finally got around to listening to the segment last night, wasn't funny and it was mostly Brand making it worse and worse. I have pondered over recent years whether the BBC has ANY kind of quality control, or whether they just wash all our hard-earned money down the plughole to show signs of life. In recent years I've pretty much given up on TV altogether and download most stuff I want to watch from bittorrent so that I can watch it when I want and not have to use their sodding iPlayer.

When I move out there is no way I'm paying for a license, chuck out the aerials and just use my TV for DVD/media watching, although I've heard the BBC assumes EVERYBODY who owns a TV is watching their stuff and sends people round to harass you till you pay up.

DVDs or TV rips doesn't matter. They are still protected by copyright, and unless the copyright owner has given permission (and that's generally unlikely) for them to be passed around via torrents, then it's not only still illegal but is the same breach of law as copying the DVD.

Regardless, Friday Night With is the best chatshow on TV by a mile. I see no reason why you would have to be braindead to watch it. Its called popular culture.

Eastenders is, without a shadow of a doubt, the single most inane, pointless, and boring way to waste your life ever dreamed up by mankind.

Unless you are a 50 year old woman or a 14 year old girl, you really have no buisness to be watching Eastenders, Emmerdale, Corry, or any other show about an old woman standing in a news agents talking about her corns.
