    Orange say no to Phorm

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10...ont_use_phorm/

Orange, the UK's sixth largest broadband provider, is not going to use Phorm's data-snooping technology.

Paul-Francois Fournier told the FT: “Privacy is in our DNA, so we need to be honest and clear about what we are doing. We have decided not to be in Phorm because of that... The way it was proposed, the privacy issue was too strong.”

But they haven't ruled out doing effectively the same thing with a different service. I have a feeling that if Phorm more clearly defined their terms, Orange would be interested again.

So long as they stick to their guns, I don't see why Orange won't get a sizable increase in IT-savvy broadband customers (and hexus forums readers )

I'm delighted that ol' Santa has encouraged you (wakey wakey) to think about Phorm but now there's a conundrum - I can remember you bragging quite a lot but not once can I recall you saying that Orange would reject Phorm....

Including, quite possibly, out of me. Because if my ISP uses Phorm (or anything like it), they lose me.

Come on Saracen, the appeal of non-Phorm is too great

Me too Saracen. I don't want to be spied on anymore than I am already.

You do realise that there were a couple of great long threads? I don't know how you can remember much from back then (granted, you did start at least one of them)

I remember now. You said you would be a rival ISP to BT. When's the launch?

    Huh?

I despise everything Phorm stands for, and am in no way inclined to put up with it. I would move ISP because of Phorm, and that's all the reason I'd need to do it. For me, it's a line that is not to be crossed.

Only if no other ISP was left without phorm (which was the prophecy of doom from santa).

As i said, this won't happen in a free market, too many people wouldn't like it.

This isn't so say that the idea of been able to provide cheaper broadband to people, whilst still allowing themselfs to gourge stupidly on youtube (ie not by having silly quotas of 6GB a month) is a very good one, and it should happen as an option.
