Not a question of being clever or better, each to their own.

Although that's exactly what unpatriotic means though, so you can.

You wanted a Brazilian driving an Italian car to beat a Brit driving a British car, cheering away from your home \ pub in Britain. Whilst in Brazil, they cheer on their man. And in Italy they cheer on their car... but of course this is England, and you are above all that blind patriotism stuff.

    Always a few...
This is the difference: People who see F1 as a nationalistic sport, and those that don't. People who don't see F1 as a nationalistic event shouldn't be considered unpatriotic - because we do not see the sport as "a Brazilian driving an Italian car to beat a Brit driving a British car". I don't know how others see it, but I see it as a Ferrari driver vs a McLaren driver. Differing points of view. Lewis should, by the same logic, be considered unpatriotic for supporting, or looking up to, or whatever, Senna and not Mansell.

People should be free to choose who they want to support in this sport for whatever reasons - be it for nationalistic reasons, or whether they like the driving style, or their demeanor, or their ability....whatever.

    Re: F1 Championship

So in your opinion, Hamilton should have as many fans in Brazil as Massa.

You try explaining that to Brazilian F1 fans, see how far you get.

I think I can best word my reply like this - no they don't.
I generally want England to win because I support England. But football isn't my sport (and I couldn't give a flying duck about most other international sports either), it's a passionate but passing thing for me. I enjoy watching it, I enjoy playing it, and I want those I support to win.

I've been beyond that with F1 for years now. It's been part of my life since before I could name a driver. I liked Mansell back when I was in my very early teens, and was in disbelief and almost shock when Senna died, and since then I've mildly liked or disliked certain characters, but I rarely cheer for any. Jean Alesi is probably the single exception, as he did things no one else would even contemplate and is unheard of today.

So go on. I'm British, but why should I support a British driver?

Regardless of my own single opinion, go and take a look at a dedicated motorsport or F1 website. One with an international audience. You'll be surprised at how little patriotism is out there.

Well maybe you should have asked the cheering crowds of Brazilians at the race weekend that question.

'Yeah, so you lot are Brazilian, so come on, why should you support Massa??!!?11?1'

Assuming you were not killed, I'm sure you'd get the following answer - Massa is Brazilian, we are Brazilian.

It seems a lot of people have this drive. If for some strange reason you don't, fair enough.

As I said, don't give me that nonsense about 'real fans', the first few posts in this thread which were anti-Hamilton were not like that because they wanted a close race, they were things like 'I hope Hamilton sticks it in the wall at the first corner'.

i always wonder why british fans dont support ham and i may know why but wont comment on it as it may cause abit of a stir

end of the day i cant see any reason why a British F1 fan wont support Ham but each to their own i will say
