Exactly - pop ups I view as an unnacceptable form of advertising, intrusive and irritating.

Just like virtually everybody else, as long as the ad isn't obtrusive (not a popup) I'd be fine with it. As long as it means that this forum keeps going!

It wont cover anything, no one buys ads at the bottom of pages, you wont have sound/annoying things

BTW - 5lab why did you vote for the last one then make the comment?

Don't mind tbh as long as it's not too intrusive

You're right about the pay per click adverts, they just don't pay any money at all (been that route myself), the only ones that ever pay out worth a damn are the the affiliate % of sale links

    David:

For what it's worth how much would you need on a monthly basis? I'm not offering - and I know that it's essentially a private matter - so if you feel it's easier to express in £ / user or just can't say at all then fair enough. Just curious really. I'd be happy to make a few small donations - especially as I use the for sale forums quite a bit - but wouldn't be keen on signing up for it on a montly basis unless it was damn cheap. A voluntary basis might work - depending on how much cash you need - and you could always put any extra donations towards reviews / articles as voted for by the forum members... ? Or raffle review kit (assuming that you get to keep any of it)

Edit: Though obviously if you can get enough via a simple advert then that's the easiest way for the people using the forums.

Popups - I think lots of people will get annoyed. There a really bad idea.

Banners aren't really a problem, although if the current one isn't working - what good is a bigger one going todo ... people still ain't going go click it!

havent voted yet, but i'll prolly vote 1, seeing as you are saying that its not gonna be a flash/popup/soundy thing.. however, how about at the end of your reviews you put a 'this xxxxxx can be bought off xxxxx retailer for £xxx' and get a couple of pence for the followthru clicking/buying or is that not possible.. i'm only saying that because, tbh i'm not one to click on adverts unless i'm gonna be interested in it (which i guess is logic heh) - ie the current advert at the top of this page - about popup stoppers, doesnt prompt me to click because i've already got the google toolbar thing.. anyhow i'm waffling so i'll stop

David - please ignore my vote, I hadnt read the thread (voting bit being at the top and all...) also the pm was before I read the thread. I dont mind banners of any kind. The type that give you the most money would be best
I wont be using the forums *if* popups are added. While they are easy to block, it would not be fair to use the forums with out adverts like that. Popups are not nice. Banners are.
Maybe we could even have banners in our sigs? I wouldnt mind. pm me the url to add, or you could do it for me Sigs would have to stay resonably small though!
Big ALs sig for example could have his stats thing alone side his specs, instead of cenrterd above each other, and so could Stoo.

How much would a monthly fee be? I cant say if I would be able to untill I know how much it will be.

Maybe you could set up a click based thing, where users have either to pay a fee or click ads many many times a month?
