    Forum Problem

As you can see we have fixed the forum problem and we are about to invest heavily in more servers so it wont happen again.

However, this now leaves us with a problem.

The Google adverts are not working, these are the only adverts on the site which are based on a per-click basis. Without you clicking on them the forums will make no money. We have given Google around 1.5Million impressions on the forums alone with very very little return to us in funding.

So, I propose a vote, if you vote for the advert to be put on the forums then this will happen quickly, we have signed an exclusive 2 year contract with this USA company.

This is a serious issue and I expect serious answers, we will go with the flow on the votes. I have to say people who are being unconstructive in this instance may well have access revoked. I am being courteous by giving people the vote to help find the answer, unlike other forums who give you no option.

How much would the sub be?

I don't think I'd mind a larger banner tbh. I mean, adverts may be annoying to some but they are necessary for funds. And besides, if you really don't like 'em, you don't have to look at them.

The Google advert will go and we will have _1_ banner ad on the forums.

I think it is fair personally.. Hardforums.com have one around the same size.

Don't mind at all tbh David. I finfd the adverts totally non-intrusive and part of the background.

    No problem here.

Just checked it, I wouldn't moan about that. Reasonable size and you can always scroll down.

No problems here. Someone is in for a beating though!

Just so you all know the most construtive Squid0x was the person who voted for the last option.

A serious future of the forums thread and as usual he decides to be a tit... nevermind.

i voted for the last option aswell ...

dont mind at all with the one thats already there , but something like HardForum's would just get in the way , plus after you got the one you might get even more

why not place a normal sized banner on both top and bottom of the forums?

If you can get someone to buy one sure... Do you understand how hard it is to sell adverts.

Also - This is the only one which there will be on the forums....

You provide these forums for free and as such I have no complaints about large banners.

I'd prefer it if there wasn't pop-ups/those annoying full screen ones that you have to close, but at the end of the day I'd rather have Hexus with adverts than no Hexus at all.

EDIT: How about offering people an advert-free version of Hexus for a small monthly fee?

For my 2p I think the way Hardforums do it is great - just a single sponsor so you don't have to wait for a different ad to load on every page. Again I'd sooner these forums were here and if that means more ads then so be it. I personally think that the only irratating ads are the ones that either have sound or are pop-ups (either browser window pop-ups or flash ads that invade the whole screen). Subs may be dangerous in that it may drive a lot of people away and also that when pay for something expect a lot more control over it... Though I suppose it would depend on how much the sub was. Perhaps a voluntary fund would work? Donate £1 through nochex / paypal / bank transfer...? As long as people thought it was being honest then I reckon it would work - perhaps a blue peter style 'appeal meter' would be good - so that people can be aware of the funding status - when cash is or isn't needed - and contribute accordingly.

What Moby said tbh - as long as popups never darken the door everything will be just dandy
