We just had the pissiest exam ever on wednesday

An open book exam... where they told us the questions the day before, we went home and filled out a booklet and drew some graphs, then took in ANY and as MANY books as we wanted to the exam, and had 30 mins to answer 12 short answer questions. The entire paper was out of 50, and it counted as 25% of our over all mark for the module. Easiest 25% i've ever got

i thought N was 'near miss'. '?' is "we think you've been cheating..."
the main reason my whole sixth form generally got such low general studies results is because we're not taught it. seriously. not one lesson. i went into the first exam not even knowing what the subject was about. the school must get more funding or something, if it appears that i'm doing five a-levels instead of four.

our school got the "aqa are very dissipointed with the attitude of some of the candidates" and eventually three people lost their prefect status. lowest score was 0 for someone that didn't bother opening the paper. my friend got 1/100, and she wrote six pages of stuff - how do you expect us to know what to write when we don't know what we're being marked on?!

I don't know of any school with decent IT / computing teachers. If they were decent they would be earning a crapload of money working somewhere else.

Neither were we! Its all current affairs and comprehension, you just read the questions and answer them! If you get forced to do it and then mess about then fair enough, but my papers ranged from "write essays giving your opinion on X based on your general knowledge" to "using the info in source Y answer the following questions" on stuff we'd never seen before. Anyway, as you say, noone's really going to care if you pass or fail, its just another string to your bow if you can get it. Now time to do some proper A levels

the majority of our year failed the exams, apart from a few people now with bruises...its the curse of our college tho, its rubbish.
oh yeh , whats General Studies?

if war is the answer, then we are asking the wrong question

Im sure General Studies is possibly the most pointless thing. There are maths/language/technology/science/morality/art etc... Basically very few universities accept it - none of mine do. Bascially its AS/A level standard on things that you havent done since GCSE, or year 9 when i stopped doing R.E. (R.S.), and art...so they just give you A/AS level papers to do on them, which is stupid becuase if you wanted to do it at A/AS you would be studying it, so it wouldnt count for anything...

We had lecturers on it at college, but not many people went to any, and a person who did got an E, so i didnt waste my time

I don't know of any school with decent IT / computing teachers. If they were decent they would be earning a crapload of money working somewhere else.
true! i havent had a single good IT/computing teacher. The current one is a slight improvement - but not much

i love the way he just ignores you when you try to ask him a question top quality stuff hehe, maybe he'll start listening to you now that you got an A in CPT5 ? well fingers crossed eh?

this has basically turned into a thread about how crap general studies is, half the people seemed to have taken it seriously yet had no lessons, whereas the other half had 'lessons' (well i went to one of these so-called lessons, realised how crap it was and didnt attend any for the rest of the year), and just took it as a chance to abuse AQA... i was quite impressed how i got 100/100 for the maths one, yet only 21/100 for the german one, shows how much i tried,

is there anyone who applied to uni where they actually considered General Studies to be worth anything more than the paper the paper its printed on?

our computing tutor are great blokes, its just a shame they ain't too good at teaching. they know their stuff, its just getting it across thats a challenge. i do tend to shut off in theory lessons as it can get waaaaaay too boring for me, so i just doze off. shame really.
oh yeh, my tutor has got an awful mullet and has a B.O. problem that could be classed as a WOMD (weapon of mass disgust )

    Geography - E

(Really annoyed with that, I got a B at GCSE but the geography exam was with OCR, this time roun we had Edexcel and it was bloody hard!)

    Media - D

Pleased, I should be able to push that to a C by the final exam.
