Why do films at the end credits still date the year they were made in Roman Numerals? Even current ones? Seems a bit ... well out dated.

Someone told me it's so you can't immediately figure out when something was made, or the age of the material - in other words being awkward. Don't know how true this is, but I just googled it and some people say it, and some just say it just looks cool (?)...

I've heard the hard to figure out how old it is theory too. Like putting a private number plate on a posh car.
