I've never really understood the vehemence with which Jade Goody is hated. She was a victim of circumstance to begin with & exploited by the press. But she actually managed to turn that around & make a successful career of celebrity status, and for that I applaud her, as I applaud anyone who can exploit a niche market & make wads of cash. She never really hurt anyone in the process, she loved her children dearly & most of what she did was for them. She played the media to her advantage through some really slick marketing & made others wealthy & indeed wealthier off the back of it, again, not a bad thing.

I dont' hate her, I have no reason to hate her, as annoying as she came across on TV. I applaud her in the end for raising the need for earlier smear tests for women, it's just a shame it had to be this way & the Gov't didn't act sooner. If she was a celebrity, it's because the press & ultimately the public made her that way. So don't despise her for it, it's not her fault at all. If she was as thick & stupid as people like to believe, then how could she orchestrate such a career?

Cancer is bad, and no one should have to suffer from it. However, most people seem to forget that whilst she's put it in the spotlight, there are a few million cases worldwide each year and only celebrities get the stories on it. People have been in far worse situations than Ms Goody here. Her kids for instance, good for them to have money to carry them through to the day they die. But why should they? Plenty of kids have to suffer the trauma of a parent - or in some sad cases both parents - passing away and having to struggle on with nothing or very little. Whilst if i was her of course i'd do everything i could for my kids, but is giving them that kind of money worthwhile?

RIP, but she didn't deserve the amount of attention she got, just because she died doesn't improve my opinion on her - quite frankly i found her to be obnoxious.

On the plus side, labs have reported 20-50% increases in people going for check ups which is no bad thing. The problem with smear tests is that they're not very accurate until you hit 25 - there's too much of a possibility of getting false negatives/positives.

However there are exceptions to be made for certain individuals (like Hitler etc) but Jade Goody? Common no comparison. Making a career being a celebrity when you have NO TALENT what so ever is enough reason to hate her and show what a farce the industry can be. There are so many talented people who die never being noticed for their abilities (some of who from similar reason to her id bet) and i just have no professional respect for her at all because of this.
The reason she managed to pull all this off had nothing to do with her ability, it was her PR people who have been making something out of nothing their entire lifes.

I didn't care for the woman at all, but there are two good things that have come from her time in the public eye.
Raising the profile and awareness of cervical cancer, and some priceless quotes.

Guys, I just hope most people take something from this. Like most I didn't care about cancer, till jade had it. It's made me more aware that enough is not being done to prevent and treat suffers. Yes it does take someone in the public eye, but i feel jade has done a good a thing allowing it to be publicised.

But that's my point, you shouldn't have to wait till a "celebrity" gets sick to worry about a disease or what it does. The information should be there, people should be made aware reguarly by the Government (without reaching the point of information saturation as we have on alchohol, drugs, obesity etc.)

For example, Natasha Richardson died recently in a skiing accident, do you hear anyone going on about how tragic head injuries are, or how important it is to get a proper medical examination after one occuring?

At the end of the day, the coverage is what I hate and am angry about, I don't know who Jade Goody was to know whether I like her or not.

surely there's far more danger in cancer than there is in drugs and alcohol..?
