I really don't think that know in a reccession is the time to go on strike. I'm sure there are thousands of people who will gladly due the job on the same pay and hours.
Perhaps they should think about that!

There was some people today implying to the boss they "may have to work from home", i know for a fact some can quite easily walk 20-30 mins from a rail station to work. Just because they cant get a tube to "practically" the front door here as usual, they acting like its the end of the world for getting to work
Presumably they can't say "if you strike we'll pay you even less? - oh and you should make up the two days you wasted pissing off the entire capital"?
It's a bit like the postal strikes to be honest, yes some of them get a raw deal, and yes sometimes they have to put up with utter **** from the general public, but why take it out on the rest of us? Striking is NOT the answer, Britain has a long standing history of not negotiating with Unions or Terrorists, why should it happen again now? The fact is, a 5% pay rise in a recession is frankly ludicrous and most employers would tell you where to get off "stick a decimal point in front of that and we'll start talking" - it's a bit like the loonies on Dragon's Den who waltz in and say "I'd like £400,000 for a 5% share in my company ". I guess they say that they're aiming to harm TFL's profits, yeah right.
What i think is hilarious is that no doubt a lot of them will just see it as a day off - yeah, try getting from your house to anywhere fun now!
Cry me a river...RMT doesn’t resort to industrial action lightly, that’s just a myth peddled by some sections of the media. The fact is that Tube workers have been driven into walking out today.
Tube bosses have deliberately provoked this confrontation and RMT wants the issues at the heart of the dispute to be resolved so that our members can get back to delivering a first class transport service.
On London Underground, bosses are threatening to tear up an agreement aimed at safeguarding jobs, and have refused to rule out compulsory redundancies. Up to 4000 jobs are at risk as part of a multi billion pound cuts package that can be traced directly back to the collapse of Metronet and the failure of the PPP.
RMT have made it clear we expect managers to abide by agreements and we would simply not be doing our job as a union if we allowed the tube to treat our members as cannon fodder who can be hired at fired at will.
On pay, we have asked for the usual single year agreement. Tube chiefs attempted to impose a five year deal which would have meant real terms pay cuts into the next decade. We will not be bullied into accepting that our members should be forced to pay for an economic crisis that was cooked up by the bankers and the politicians.
RMT has exposed the hypocrisy of senior tube managers on pay when 123 of the top TFL bosses are paid over £100,000 plus bonuses. It is those same managers who are attacking, bullying and victimising RMT members over our campaign for job security and a living wage.
RMT is committed to a modern and safe public transport system for Londoners. That cannot be achieved by axing jobs, slashing rates of pay and imposing massive cutbacks on the Tube.
Tell that to the thousands of people who got made redundant through no fault of their own, and £100k plus bonuses is a drop in the ocean compared to things like Fred the Shred's pension. Note that they also wanted a guarantee that no workers would be made compulsorily redundant in the next 4(?) years, how could they seriously expect that to be accepted?

well i will have to take the bus from liverpool street to green park and that wont be a pleasant journey.
unfortunatly i have to go to work but i am not waking out extra early for the pleasure. im going to take my time getting to work even if i reach work at lunch time.
really is a bloody awful stupid strike this is. ****ing greedy bastards
I think as we can see for our comments striking doesn't make us feel sorry for them.
I think there going the wrong way for it.
It is not as if there are a shortage of people willing do be tube drivers is it?
What is the requirement for the job, half of them can't speak clear english over the speaker, many of them its clearly not a language they are fluent in. What is it that is required as a skill to demand £40k? (its more than that now, even before overtime.....)
Given that teachers are paid a fraction of that......

How the hell can they ask for more money and less hours?! They get huge sums of money and the work isn't exactly taxing!
They don't even need to use the speaker these days, it's all pre-recorded
I can never hold back the smile when the posh lady says "Cock.. fosters"
I have to take a different route and the train in to the studio tomorrow. But I defo won't be leaving any earlier gwad damn it. I warned them I'll be late.
Ah must be the workings of Bob Crow from the RMT. In the whole of the transport sector train.tube drivers have got it better than anyone else. They earn more than bus drivers and dont have to face the 'yootz' during school times arguing with the bus driver as they dont have an oyster card while listening to tunes from low quality speakers .
Really in times of recession, the fact that your being offered a raise, should nb something to be grateful about. Surely its better than having redundancy breathing down our necks?
As for people commuting tommorow, Ive got a few mates with exams tommorow in Victoria and I might have to do them a favour and drive them to central. As for work, luckily my work place is 5 mins from my house.
Well the fun begins to day. going to take a packed train that comes every 15min into liverpool street and off to take the bus all the way to oxford circus and then a nice 15min walk from their. good times. should be at work around 11. leaving soon
I'm on gardening leave. I'm still not dressed, all i've done today is make breakfast, watch the roomba do some cleaning, and sit in the bath for the entire length of a Leamon Jelly album.
Yet still i freal strangely outraged at the lazy tube drivers.

An awful lot of strikes these days seem to be very badly thought through. Surely the most effective way to achieve something is to try to get the general public onside - but instead most of these recent strikes just seem to be designed to irritate. I know from personal experience that Scotrail's strikes just resulted in more people taking the bus, which means less money for their supposedly neccessary pay rises.
