i dont believe theres much unis do about hardware - theres a very limited market for it - maybe an electronics degree would be more what you wanted?

You want to study Electronic Engineering, not IT or Software Engineering.

Prolly best to speak to a University or Careers Advisor, as it's not a choice you want to get wrong!

Im doing a BTEC National Diploma, it deals more with the hardware and networking side of computers. Goldsmiths Uni is a very good uni for aspects of IT.

I agree with dabeeenster, don't go for an IT course if you hate programming.

Also have a look at the times and guardian university guides, they do league tables for the best uni's for your course.

I think plymouth might appeal. They do a good course called Media Lab Arts that covers web design and digital media plus you get a working placment in the 3rd year. I think Southamptons pretty good for most things too! If you dont wanna go to a big Uni check out the Glamorgan prospectus too

I can recommend Bournemouth both for it Engineering/Design School and the town.

I would make sure that you pick the right course, I didn't. I did BEng Computer Communicaton which covered Digital and Analouge design, Maths, Programming, Web Design and a whole lot of other stuff; and then in the third year covered comms, 3D max and more programming.
It was a great course but a bit too general and so I've come out the other end with not enough confidence to Design CPU's, Amps, Networkworking gubbins or programming.
The only thing I can do reasonable well is 3D Max which is proving a nightmare to get a job in - because I a) didn't specailise in it and b) have no work experience in it.

So I wouldn't choose a Uni first, find a course that is exactly what you want to do because you might end up doing for the rest of your life, and then find a Uni that does it.
If you looking at Hardware Design your going to have to do programming, because your going to end up having to programme chips. Media Design if web design and 2D/3D tickle your fancy.
Although you hate programming (I did) there is a good chance you'll end up doing some even if it's just scripting if you do a course involving computing.

    Other than that Good Luck

I would suggest StaffordShire university (where i'm at now)

The first year is common to all computing degrees (bar a few module choices), and includes both hardware and software - you never know you might find a hidden love for C

I'm having a great time here, the halls are excellent, the course suits me perfectly and the tutors are (for the most part) helpful and friendly. Theres also a good mix of practical and theory.

Aston is sposed to be pretty good, with a diverse range of degrees involving computers. at least thats what i remember from the tour i went on there. nice uni too, and pretty much right in the middle of Birmingham.

You are definitely looking for electronic engineering. I'm currently doing Electrical and Electronic Engineering (so it includes power systems and motors and the like) at Nothrumbria. I started it at Loughborough, but dropped out due to personal reasons. I can say that the material is almost EXACTLY the same at both and Loughborough is supposed to be one of the best in the country for that course. So I would argue that it doesn't matter which uni, as long as it is accredited by the IEE.
