    I hate people

As some of you may know the store where i work is closing. This i can deal with.

But what i cannot stand is the complete insensitivity of the vultures that are in the store.

    Prime examples Today
99 out of every 100 customers asking "when are you closing? " not out of concern for the staff but so they can come on the last day and get everything super cheap

Arguing for 10 mins over a 5p refund <- this annoys me at the best of times

trying to haggle on price that i reduced not 2 minutes ago while they were looking

    and general asshattery

Seriously a little sensitivity from people would be nice. oi nkow where not alone but most of these people i have worked with for 4 years and were a very close knit team so this is quite hard for all of the staff

also to add insult to injury someone deposited a turd in the store and not just a smear off the bottom of there shoe. a full size steaming ****. dont know weather it was human of animal but i didnt see any animals in the store

    Re: I hate people

It would soon be a different matter if it was their jobs. You can understand people after a bargain & that no-one has much cash etc, but there's no need to be so out & out insensitive. However, seems to be the norm, same with Woolworths closing &c, in my local branch it was all about grubbing for a bargain & never mind the staff who had worked there for years & years.

    People are overrated.

Sorry about your job. Hope something turns up for you soon.

    Re: I hate people

    People are vultures.

The good thing is that they will die. Maybe in the near future. And maybe some will return back from shopping at your store to find their best friend banging their wife

Or better still, they have a nasty accident on the way back home.

Or they get back to their home. To their kids who are noisey and giving them them hell. And their wife has become so ugly and hairy they can no longer get an erection.

Maybe you will find another job and just be glad you are not still working in that shop taking that sort of crap every day.

Still, their wife will still be an ugly yeti. And they will die. It's just a matter of when

Ah yes... I've noticed this too and people are now not even using thank you and goodbye.

It's a sign of the times. Manners cost nothing, yet they appear to be going the same route of the dinosaurs.

    Re: I hate people

Sorry to hear about your job, it's not very pleasant out there at the moment.

As Lee says, manners cost nothing, it doesn't hurt to use them. Makes my blood boil when people are rude for no reason whatsoever.

And reference the arguing over the smallest amount of mone, I think I have spoken to 3 customers in the last 6 months who have NOT asked for my "best price", "decent discount". No-one seems to realise that shops are a business, not a charity. And are staffed by real people, almost like them, just less rude.....

    Sorry to hear

The 99 out of the 100 people giving you grief are probably on the dole, trying to get bargains on their meague income support, so probably have no appreciation for those who work.

I remember the bad old days for myself when working with the general public. Please god never again!

I find that the worst are those who work. By far. Everyone wants discount, but those that argue most are those that are in work.

In my experience, that is, of the motortrade

    Re: I hate people

heh, I get asked a lot for "bulk discount" at work when people purchase 2 hard-drives.

Do these same people go to Tesco/Asda/Lidl and get 2 loaves of bread and ask for a discount at the till as well?

Yes, we all know there is an economic recession going on, but some people seem to think that this is an open invitation to be quite rude sometimes. I've witnessed a few cases in tesco where people who you would deem to be quite "well off" (posh clothes, BMW keys on show, nice gold jewellery) complaining and asking for discount on items stating there's a recession going on.

This annoyed me intensely when I worked in a computer store. What is it about buying from there that means you can feel free to hastle people about the price?

I also got asked for "discount for cash" far too often. I think the general assumption was that you weren't going to put it through the till, so avoiding taxes etc.

I used to gie discount for Switch. I'd work out how much it would cost the owners to bank the cash, take off the 35p Switch transaction fee, then give the remainder as a discount. not many people were pleased with me after that! My boss did think it was funny though (and saved him taking a bag of cash to the bank)

When I worked in retail I said it was against the store policy as doing a discount for cash discriminates those wishing to pay by credit/debit card or to take it on credit

    Re: I hate people

People these days seem to know the price of everything and the value of nothing... part of the cost of living in a consumption driven society. Sadly its only likely to get worse, even once we start climbing out of the recession as people will still want to "get the best deal".

I am always polite when dealing with people when they are providing a service, even on the phone which sometimes I admit can be a tad trying It may not get you a better price but (a) its the right thing to do as you'd expect the same if the position was reversed and (b) you get a darn sight more help if you need advice or help.

Case in point would be my local Tesco express which I nip in when I need emergency milk etc. I'm always pleasant and chatty to the staff there so they tend to recognise me. Now I'm useless at spotting deals like "twofers" and they always point them out to me, which saves me money in the long run if not at the time

Manners also score you points when entertaining in a restaurant... but I'd hardly call my motives altruistic in this case

    Re: I hate people

well, as the store is closing and I assume you are going to be no longer working or the company the next time a person does that just say "Oh.... look at that the price just went up" and if they carry on say "oh, and again"

I would love to see their faces.

Funnily enough... about three weeks ago I was driving into work and the security guard (you knowm, the one that always looks miserable and we take for granted) smiled and waved as I went through - and it set me up for the day. So I rang the security room to pass on my thanks - and since then, I (and others) get a smile not just from him, but the other guards as well - it's infectious and cost me 2 minutes of time for an unquantifiable boost in morale. They have a miserable job, standing outside in all weathers, and people don't give them a second thought (I didn't - now I do)

That reminds me of a time I once had some dodgy software (bespoke) that was causing all sorts of issues with a conflict in a file name called by another bit of software. I called up and got this really cool guy on the phone and between us we re-worked the front end of the software to sort out the issues (took about 5 hours in total all done on line and over the phone)

After it was sorted I called up and asked to talk to his manager. I told him how good the guy was etc and left it at that. A few days later I got a phone call from him saying he had been pulled into a meeting and had been given a promotion and a pay rise and said it was the good word I had put in that had made it possible. He sounded like the happiest man in the world that day It made me feel pretty good as well and took about 2 mins to do.

Yes, it is easy to complain when things go wrong - often we forget whe someone goes that extra bit. (Or should we expect good service, and remark on it because it is unusually good... but that is a whole new topic!)
