3 times in a row they call a strike

Wonderful. the national express trains have called a strike for the 3RD TIME in a row!!! two weeks ago they called their first strike for thursday and friday and did the same last week and now today and tomorrow!!

All because of a payrise. come on where in a recession!! greedy bunch of rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish i would say!! How many MANY people would die to have their job at even half of what they earn already!

There are plenty of unemployed people out their for christ sakes. imo now is not the time to ask, no sorry, DEMAND a payrise at this current economic mess.

some people are just not grateful that they HAVE A JOB

Thats the problem with people that think there important you see, they think they can get away with it.
I say give all the ones that strike a written warning, that should shut them up.
And make sure theres something in there working contracts that says no strikes..
If the company was trying to screw them over they'd be the first ones off to the unions yet when the workers try to screw the company over the company is powerless..

Whilst I am in no way in favour of unions and strikes, long live Maggie T in that respect, from what I have read there is more to this than just pay. That is just what is being spun by the company to hide the fact that they are trying to shaft both their customers and their staff. Apparently there are also serious concerns over their safety record as well.

I am sure some of the top brass could take a pay cut and give that to the workers. They won't though, too busy sittng in their multi million pound homes. A strike is the last resort.

You see this is why its normally people who are in industries which don't require high levels of education who strike.

RMT Union leader, bob crow, earns more than the TFL managers. TFL is ment to employ some 180,000 people in total (thou normally indriectly, and that figure came from my memory of a free london paper so its probably wrong, but hey, its an illustration). Bob Crow earns £128k or something equally large. Say bob took a massive 100k reduction. That would be each worker better off by not even 50p from the unoin dues.

So if you can cut the 'top brass' even by 50%, the employees wouldn't see any real difference.

A strike is not their last resort, the company they work for is up **** creak without a paddle, they are helping it get taken over faster, hoping for the sweet sweet government ownership.

but if top brass did take a pay cut and give it to the workers saying "its all we have left to give" I am sure things would be different.

    What?

    Not a chance.

The top brass would either go work somewhere else, or they're useless.

I work in telecoms, and whenever things start going pear shaped, any sort of pay-rise is the first thing to be cut. So agree with the OP; Striking because a pay-rise is not good enough is out of order!

Re: 3 times in a row they call a strike

Darn it. Is it all National Express trains or certain routes? Landlord is refurbishing the flat, and rather than put up with the noise and more troubling, no working shower/toilet for most of a week, I figured that I'd spend a week or two in Aberdeen from tomorrow/Saturday.
