    Re: Moving to Australia

Good luck Mike - everyone I know who's been out there loves it. I've got a good friend in Melbourne but I don't see/hear from her very often but I know she and her other half (an Aussie) have moaned about the prices over there when we've been having a beer or two over here..

Hi Mike - I Lived in Sydney 1982-2002.

What do you need to know ?
If you have more general questions may I recommend an aquaintance of mine http://www.dansdata.com/ or his blog http://dansdata.blogsome.com/

All imports are pricey in Aus, but big chains do well, so Amazon, Big W and K-Mart are all worth a try.
On the bright side the mains supply is the same so you could buy hardware here and ship it. For DVDs etc, multi region players are very popular for a reason !

Good luck with the move Mike

First thing, join OCAU for the Aussie equivalent of Hexus. You'll find plenty of helpful people in the extensive forums.

Unlike the extremely low £18/36 limits in the UK, you can import something worth up to $1000AUD before you will be hit with GST and a processing charge.

For CDs and DVDs you can also look here http://www.jbhifi.com.au/

Edit: another good site that also has all the info on Australian ISPs is http://www.whirlpool.net.au/

    Re: Moving to Australia

That's cool, I fancy moving somewhere not long after I graduate...if you find people where you move in Aus that need a computer nerd, tell 'em to employ me!

Anyway, all the best with the move - I'm sure it'll be ace!
