Actually, one thing I wondered after reading more on how it works, is this similiar to a ducted fan approach that's been talked about in near future sci-fi as a way of making practical hover vehicles??

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
A ducted fan is a completely different technology: think of the ring housing of that "bladeless fan" but with a conventional fan within it - the bypass part of a passenger jet engine is a lot like a ducted fan. They have better performance than an open fan like an aircraft prop, you hardly ever see open fans in computer applications.
Looks pretty cool to me!
I agree, it wont be much use if its 40c with high humidity. Its still is a nifty device though

I'd be interested to see if it had potential in fluids.
It would be quite convenient for things like pipes where you want to transport things without wanting to get blades in the way. Even a propulsion system would be quite good for things like jet skis/underwater robots. On the downside, the inlet holes are probably tiny and would be easily clogged...

replacing environmentally unfriendly and very expensive aircon?
you mean like a ceiling fan does? Far less obtrusive too.

If its like anything else Dyson has "invented" its just some reworked version of something that already exists.
Its like his ball vacuum cleaner advert. If using a ball was so obvious, why do all your previous cleaners use wheels? dumbass!
Stupid music. Would have liked to have had an idea how noisy this thing is.
I've never felt this rough "buffeting" or "slapping" as he explained via a normal fan.
Interesting stuff though.
