    Question Logo Help! (Please :))

    Hey all,
I'm helping my brother out by creating him a website for when he starts his new business - www.wsamotors.com (it's in development at the moment...)

However, I'm having trouble with the logo. He's given me one he likes but I don't think it fits with the site or with the professional image he needs to portray.

I'm not a graphics design guy myself, does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve this logo?

    Thanks in advance,
    Leon

    Re: Logo Help! (Please :))

Problem is the dark text on a dark background, personally I'd fill the letters in a lighter metallic colour, with some shading to indicate raised metal letters on the blocks

As Lucio says, there needs to be more contrast so the logo pops out. At the mo it's all a bit too dark

    Re: Logo Help! (Please :))

I think i'd go for a larger 'WSA' than 'motors', or caps then small, just to help instantly differentiate it. Also the lightning background is a little cliched.

    Re: Logo Help! (Please :))

I like the website, but the logo just looks too cluttered and out of place.

I'd go for something a bit larger that meshes with the overall theme more.

Same, looks way out of place. Would look better with something a lot more simplistic and unique than a font with cheesy lightning behind it.

How about some wide WSA with MOTORS underneath it? Then use your imagination to complete the rest

A quick tip from a graphics student -

Design the logo in black and white first. A good logo needs to have a definite and easily recognisable form. You can worry about the colour later.

Also, you might find that the logo gets printed in black and white a lot anyway in stationary/letters/invoices etc, which is why the above is very important.

Just my opinion here, so feel free to ignore it, but the current site design makes it look like the logo has just kinda been dropped there; try to make it integrate with the rest of the page, if that makes any sense.

I'd go with this advice that VM has given.

Start from the ground up, with something simple (form wise, and colour) that has contrast - which can move across various forms of media with ease.

The logos you have there are only usable on screen at best.

I couldn't agree more. Whilst its entirely different, I needed to design a new logo for my evilmunky website as the one i was using before, wasn't my own and I had been asked to stop using it.

Designed it in black and white first, and then added colours. I would also say, do it in vector format first to keep the quality and scalability.

Another thing i meant to say, but forgot, was using a transparant background can help overlay it onto your site.

Couple of minutes knocked up something transparent and simple plus black and white like this
