If you set up a dispute through Ebay or Paypal and post the item back by a trackable signed for postage service and it is received by the seller they will have to refund you automatically.

Ebay/Paypal will expect you to add tracking info to the dispute so they will know when the item has been returned. I would also make sure you take pictures of the item and also the packaging you use in case the seller tries a fast one(saying you have damaged it or something). It would also be useful to have a copy of a newspaper with the day's date in the picture too.

Leave feedback after the refund has gone through not before.

    Re: Ebay

^ If he goes through Ebay, the item will be refunded, but the cost of shipping back will not (I think that's Andehh's main concern). The last time I had a similar problem (received wrong item in my case), I was fortunate enough that the seller wrote that they would refund refund shipping, and given they were an honest bunch who made an unintentional mistake, sent me the correct item afterwards (no dispute).

    Re: Ebay

Think I shot myself in the foot by accepting the return case & now I need to send the item. Guessing I should have raised a dispute before I accepted the returns. . Can i still create a dispute even though I have accepted the transaction cancellation & agreed to send it back for a refund?

    x2, you're not alone bud...

I remember once doing a group buy, all funds were in the paypal account and PP being their usual genius, froze all funds within it, requesting a proof of postage for the items, as they believed I was involved in some sort of scam.

I don't know if you've ever tried explaining to PP the concept of payment upfront, but you can hardly provide a proof of purchase for 100 units of XYZ, if they've frozen the fricking funds in the account for the purchase!

@ the OP, you'd be well within your rights to have a word with consumer direct too, there's those lovely distance selling regulations that all etailers (and ebayers alike) have to play by.

    Re: Ebay

Still cant figure out how to open a dispute, but i think he will just agree to everything then not refund me the postage. Will I be able to leave him feedback after he has sent me the refund, even though the transaction has been cancelled?

    Re: Ebay

To open a dispute if you haven't paid with Paypal: Help -> Resolution centre.

If you did use PayPal: My Account -> Resolution Centre

(The help section on Ebay explains the process for both if I remember right)

I wouldn't even consider trading with someone with a site with so many spelling mistakes - probably a 10-year old!

    Re: Ebay

Probably meant the seller's page, rather than Ebay itself. Mind you, I have bought a fair number of items overseas from sellers who do not speak English as their first language, and it worked out fine.

we're digressing slightly, but this point fascinates me, so many people are concerned when dealing with overseas sellers (China anyone?) but if you can establish a good working relationship, the language barrier soon becomes totally insignificant to an extent, some of my best suppliers are Chinese. They struggle to string a single sentance together but the quality of product and service can't be questioned.

    Re: Ebay

I'd say that the concern is warranted. Even a highly regarded seller can mess up. And if it happens to you, then you will have to worry about communication (language), the cost of shipping back and trying to get that refunded. Plus there is also the issue of time. You may be willing to wait a week for the item, but will you be willing to wait three (one to receive, one to send back, and another one for the replacement)?

My last item purchased on Ebay did go a little wrong (received the wrong item). It worked out in the end as I managed to get it replaced and all costs refunded. But even though it worked out fine, I was also well worried that things can go from bad to worse (e.g. sending the item back, but not get a refund for the £50 shipping costs. Or worse, not receiving a refund for the shipping costs, nor the correct item).

    Re: Ebay

i have created a dispute with Paypal. Final question though, if I leave him negative feedback, is there anything to stop him leaving me negative feedback out of spite? I can see him doing it if he can and it would be a shame to have 24 positive & 1 negative on my account.

perhaps wait until the dispute is resolved before leaving feedback? Sellers no longer have the ability to leave negative feedback, part of eBay's wonderful new rules!
