It does not matter so much whether the company is UK owned or not but whether UK jobs are maintained. Mars for example still maintains jobs in the UK but Kraft moved all of the production of Terrys chocolate abroad.

I don't have any issue buying chocolate made abroad per se as their are many decent non UK brands but what Kraft is doing is just plain sickening especially with the job situation in this country.

Cadbury is a healthy company and all that the debt mired Kraft are doing is trying to do is to remove competition and also improve its bottom end.

Like I said in the first few years not much will happen and give 5 to 10 years you will see what will happen to Cadbury in the UK.

Kraft also reduced the number of segments (and as a result reduced the amount of chocolate)you get in the Terrys Chocolate Orange. Less for more!

To be fair, Cadbury has always been a privately-owned business, so it's hardly "the country" being put up for sale.

Maybe but our chocolate has been put up for sale and it's in chubby American hands now*

*I cannot confirm or deny how chubby said hands are.

Does the sale of Cadbury include Schweppes as well? I though Cadbury had taken over the fizzy pop giant? years ago?

Schweppes was spun off into a separate entity in 2008:

I suspect if they were still one entity the takeover would not have happened although I could be wrong!!

Re: Cadburys to be bought by Kraft??

Looks like the chief exec is making loads of money out of the deal:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...r-todd-stitzer

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/bu...l-1873108.html

Todd Stitzer is getting £12 million in cash and shares for the successful deal.

As would any chief executive in his position.

He, along with every other board member, would have had a significant number of shares in the company. Some of it gets converted to shares in the new company, some of it gets converted straight to cash. There is nothing underhanded about this.
