    LAN games + fixes

    Howdy,

So was going to post this in the other topic, but kinda figured the thread in itself could get quite a lot bigger so rather than have that spammed, thought I would create another thread.

So LAN games + Fixes, if you have a gmae that has been played at LAN, but had problems with it, let us know the game + solution.

    I will start.

    CoD4 + Vista/ Win7 (32 and 64bit)

I am running on x64 windows 7 and have had some problem with lag. After some investigation I found that the problem is with PunkBuster and its latest batch of updates, so here is the fix below.

**This fix was intended for BF2142, but I have tweaked it for Win7/ Vista and it worked**

    1. Install cod4 game.

    2. Set shortcut on desktop (if that's what you use to initialize the game) to compatibility mode for previous OS. (I left this as it was and it still worked)

    3. Uninstall PB services using the pbsvc tool from evenbalance.com -> Here -> click uninstall services in the program and it will pop up a few windows, just navigate through them until it says finished

    4. Delete PB folder from the directory you installed cod4, mine was C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\pb<- delete this entire folder

    5. Reinstall the PB services again, using the same tool from step 3 (PBSVC.EXE) -> click install/repair services and run through the pop up windows

    6. Open the Services tool from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools (optionally, just click the start button and in the search box, type in 'services' and it should be listed there)

    7. Find the PnkBstrA service in the services list

    8. Right click on it, then click Properties

    9. If you have a spot to change the compatibility to Windows Vista, do it... I did not have this option and skipped this step and it still worked, so don't worry if you can't change the compatibility.

    10. Click the Log On tab at the top of the pop up window

    11. Check the "Allow service to interact with desktop" checkbox (some people say they can't find this, but it was right there when I looked, easy to see and check)

    12. Close that window now and then right click on the service and then click on 'Restart' to restart the service

    13. Navigate to C:\Windows\SysWOW64...

    14. Find PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe, they should be listed together

    15. Right click on PnkBstrA.exe and click on properties

    16. Click the Compatibility tab and check "Run as Administrator"

    17. In the same tab, change the compatability to Windows Vista, then close this window

    18. Right click on PnkBstB.exe and click properties

    19. Click the Compatibility tab and check "Run as Administrator"

    20. In the same tab, change the compatability to Windows Vista, then close this window

NOW the game is ready to go, but we need to do one last thing, and that is manually update the PB for cod4.

    21. Download pbsetup.exe from evenbalance.com -> Here -> click on the windows installer and download it.

    22. Put this exe into it's own folder, I put mine on the desktop in a folder called pbsetup (so i can use it later on if I need to update pb again)

    23. Double click on pbsetup.exe and then click on 'add a game'

    24. Find cod4 from the drop down list and then if it doesn't put the correct location / path in the next textbox after selecting cod4, then change it to where you installed the game.

    25. Click the update button on pbsetup and let it do it's work. At the end, you should see cod4 in the list of games and it will have a version number on the right of it.

    C&C Generals - Win7 64Bit

"I had to move the options.ini file from my old directory to the new one: C:\Users\Don\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data"

Something along these lines... I think we copied my options.ini to Salazaars PC and off we went.

    GRiD - someone enlighten us!

    1. Install GRiD from CD
    2. Download DirectX 9.0c from microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en)
    3. Install Direct 9.0c (web install)
    4. Change the GRiD shortcut to have -novirtual in the link

I have just updated the game. I went from patch 1 to patch 3 as patch 2 wouldnt run correctly as it couldnt create a directory. So far seems to be fine however. Will test properly and report back

AH!! it's a config file... bugger, can't remember what it was tho...

"I had to move the options.ini file from my old directory to the new one: C:\Users\Don\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data"

    also see here: http://forums.hexus.net/operating-sy...ml#post1850617

I think we found that that was all you needed to do - the options.ini is a bit screwed up so copy it from someone on the same setup (W7 x64 in this case)

GRID - Take the disc out of the box.
    Walk into backyard
    Pour kerosene on disc
    Strike match
    Retire to safe distance

It does like HT apparently. I've lost patience with the swine.

    Or possibly Atari.

I believe non-steam GRiD install on win7 is as follows:

    1. Install GRiD from CD
    2. Download DirectX 9.0c from microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en)
    3. Install Direct 9.0c (web install)
    4. Change the GRiD shortcut to have -novirtual in the link

Is the Grid thing only with certain hardware because I don't recall having any problems installing it on 7?
