    Re: Feb 14th

I'm sure it won't come as too much of a shock to anyone that knows me at all to find I'm in the "don't do Valentines day" camp. As far as I'm concerned, it's sheer commercialism and is one of the days of the year you can pretty much assume I stay firmly at home.

    Indeed.

Fortunately, she thinks much as I do about V-day.

    Re: Feb 14th

I'm sure my wife would like it if I took her out. Luckily she knows me well enough to expect, at best, a badly cooked meal at home, if I'm not working a late shift.

I make an effort on our anniversary. I, like others here, REALLY dislike the forced commercialism of Valentine's Day.

If you asked me this a couple weeks ago i would say i was looking forward to it, planned an awesome meal for me and my girlfriend at this restaurant that cooks all the food in any style you want (all you can eat to! Very fancy). Then some other fancy things( was still planning).

However, that is all out the window after she slept with another lad (she just met)on me twice and kept lying to me... was heart broke but oh wells.

Maybe its time for me to try again at VD .

All the time if your a red-blooded Male. My advice is to get some while you can as once the nipper arrives all that goes out the window as your either both too tired from feeding through the night, or something ALWAYS seems to crop up just as your about to get intimate lol

I think I was in the doghouse last year as I didn't do the whole valentines thing for my other half and she was expecting the whole card, chocolate rigmarole.

She knows my feeling on cards, especially valentines day and christmas cards in that they are just a HUGE corporate machine designed to improve the profits of large companies and card shops and I always get her stuff through the year so why should 1 small day on the calendar be so important?

    Re: Feb 14th

I've been married for almost fifteen years...to the same person!
We used to do V-day, but one year we went out (some years ago), for dinner and the experience opened our eyes.
We went to a run-of-the-mill restaurant, and all the tables had been arranged into "tables for two". Looked more like a prison visiting room. All the tables were close together, so there was no privacy. It was actually very funny. V-Day has become another commercial opportunity.

However to balance what some might perceive is an excuse, just because it is commercial, doesn't mean you shouldn't make an effort of some kind.

I'd agree with that, if it wasn't for the fact that everything miraculously becomes 20% more expensive on Feb 14th. At that point, you say nadgers to it and stay at home with a House DVD and a bottle of wine

And I agree with that too, I think there are ways of "making an effort" without having to line someone else's pockets.

OK, I totally got the wrong end of the stick when i saw the thread title.

I thought, it was about Chinese New Year/Year of the Tiger.

Hmm Valentines Day? meh...too much effort for me if I actually had someone. but i kind alike the way the Japanese interpreted it...you (males) get given chocolate on Feb 14th (honmei or giri...i think are the terms) and a month later, on march 14th you (guys) return the compliment

To be honest, nothing says "I love you" like a second hand bonnet. Did you scratch a message into the underside at all?

It can make all the difference to your mood when you've just broken down, to be fair.

WHAT!!! and ruin a perfectly good paintjob! i'd slap him

And tbh i'm chuffed to bits with my new bonnet and door catch! the paint has gone all funny on mine, and my door catch broke recently and have been having to climb through the passenger side! so see! much more thoughtful than flowers etc ( not necessarily choklits cos I do lub those )
